(Update) Mesa Homeowner Card: Two cardholders can’t earn points from same mortgage

13

Update: Mesa contacted me this morning to let me know that I had received incorrect information from support and that it’s, in fact, not permissible for two cardholders to earn points from the same mortgage. They provided this link from a support FAQ page. Guess it was too good to be true?

~~~
Mesa is a tech platform that offers a mortgage marketplace and a credit card that earns up to 100,000 points per year for mortgage payments. Bilt Rewards has been foreshadowing the ability to earn rewards on mortgage payments for some time, but Mesa actually beat them there.
Mesa doesn’t even require cardholders to use its platform to pay their mortgage in order to earn points. You simply need to let them know what your payment is when you apply, and then spend $1,000 each month on the card. The rewards from your mortgage payment will then be credited to your account after your statement closes each month that you meet the spending requirement.
A common question that we’ve been asked about the Mesa card is, “Can both my partner and I earn points for the same mortgage?”
I reached out to Mesa to ask, and received a surprising answer: “Absolutely.”
The News
  • Mesa has confirmed that two separate cardholders can earn points from the same mortgage, provided that they each spend $1,000 per month on their Mesa cards.
Quick Thoughts
This is terrific, and to me quite surprising, news. Several people had asked if their Player 2 could earn points for the same mortgage that they were already earning points for. My assumption was that it was officially prohibited, but it might be possible, provided that Mesa doesn’t put two and two together. Turns out, Mesa knows and doesn’t care.
I’ve had the Mesa card for a couple of months now and like it quite a bit. The app is slick, the various credits the card provides are applied almost instantly, and tracking both your monthly $1K minimum and when your credits renew is clear and easy.
Now that I know my wife can get a card and allow us to earn 2x household points on our mortgage, we may have a second, household Mesa card in short order.
I too like the ease of their app. This wk they offered 500 points for completing a quick survey, always nice! I did my first test transfer to ALL today & it posted immediately, also refreshing.
I give it 1 year before they cut this out. Call me jaded but these companies are all the same and will keep cutting back perks unfortunately nothing stays good anymore. Been played too many times lol
Frahan
Not even a year, looks like the info was too good to be true to begin with!
Rick
Does the $1K monthly minimum spend include the mortgage payment?
Derek
It has nothing to do with the mortgage payment because you don’t actually pay your mortgage with the card
Zooter
Is there a typical grace period with the Mesa credit card? Some mortgage-related products are structured as a small home equity loan so interest is charged right away.
Derek
So I guess there’s no reason why 2 card members can’t earn points from having 2 mortgages? Score.
UnitedEF
Applied a few days ago application still says pending guess they are overwhelmed
Kayexalate
Can you have more than one mortgage on the account?
Pam
No, it’s specifically in their T&Cs
Tyson
Good to know! A heads up: when you click on the “learn more” and the card, itself, it takes you back to this article.
Have you guys heard if they will accept payments made from Plastiq?
Darin
This is my issue as well. I’ve heard you need to connect the bank where you make the payment from and for me that’s Plastiq. I don’t think I would move ahead with this card if I had to give up paying with Plastiq.
