Quick Thoughts
Some of the main benefits of MGM Gold status are waived resort fees, a room upgrade, and priority check-in, although there are other benefits you can find here. This status level does, in theory, include a $100 Tier Celebration Credit and an annual cruise benefit. However, those are only awarded when having earned 75,000 Tier Credits, so those specific benefits aren’t earned as a result of the initial status match.
Platinum status meanwhile includes those same main benefits as Gold members, but you also get late checkout, a 30% bonus on SLOT DOLLARS, early access to premium seating at select events, expedited valet and taxi service, and more.
If you want to have the status for almost two full years, you’ll have to earn 50,000 Tier Credits within the 90 days of the status match for Gold status, or 150,000 Tier Credits for those who match to Platinum. That’s a steep ask in 90 days, so you’ll want to have a plan of attack before matching if that’s something you’ll be aiming for.

Do you think you can do an initial status match on this and then earn your tear credits via sign up bonus and spend on the Premium MGM rewards card within 90 days to get two years of status and the tier celebration and cruise benefits?
Nevermind. I realized you can just earn status organically through spend on the new MGM carr
The biggest issue for those who actually gamble is that MGM earns credits astonishingly slowly for people who play good, low house edge games like blackjack and video poker. If you want to blow your brains out playing Huff n Puff with a 92% payback fine, but those of us who would rather play something with less than 1% house edge and have some fun doing so are going to do better somewhere else. It’s worth matching if you want to get one of the “soft” benefits like the waived resort fee, but otherwise I’ll wait for something better and remain a MGM virgin, although I have Diamond Elite status from Caesars through gambling.
