The Offer
- Spend $350 between 8/29-9/9 to earn 1,000 bonus miles.
Key Terms
- Promotion runs from 08/29/16 through 09/09/16 at 11:59:59 pm ET (the “Bonus Period”).
- Member will earn a one-time bonus of up to 1,000 MileagePlus® bonus award miles on qualifying purchases, in addition to the standard MileagePlus® miles earned from shopping online through the MileagePlus® Shopping mall.
- This one-time bonus award will be determined based on Member’s cumulative qualifying purchases made during the Bonus Period: 1,000 miles for qualifying purchases of at least $350 or more.
- “Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus miles.

In the past I have earned these bonuses by buying 3rd party gift cards on eBay (via Paypal Digital Gifts, SVM, etc.).
I would speculate that any GC purchase that earns regular MileagePlus shopping portal bonuses (e.g. the typical 1-2 miles per dollar) will trigger this bonus too.
btw – their Ts & Cs always say “no gift cards,” so no indication they’re being more strict than in the past.
Does anyone know how strict they are at catching gift cards? EG amazon? This could be a very opportune time to redeem the Amex travel credit
