Last week, we posted a Quick Deal noting that the signup bonuses on both the Chase Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Plus and the Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier credit cards had increased to 50,000 points after $2,000 spend — which is terrific news for those looking to earn an easy Southwest Airlines Companion Pass early in the year so as to get maximum value from that pass (See our Complete Guide to the Southwest Companion Pass for more information). Unfortunately, the 50K Premier link died shortly thereafter (the 50K Plus link as continued working). The good news is that there is a new working link that has been uncovered on reddit for the 50K Premier signup bonus. See the “More Key information” section below if you’re interested in applying.
The Deal
- A new working link to the Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier card with a 50,000 point signup bonus after $2,000 spend has been added to our Best Offers page.
Key Card Details
- $99 annual fee is not waived
- 6,000 points after your cardmember anniversary
- Earn 2X Southwest
- Earn 1X on all other purchases
More Key Information
This new link was posted on reddit a few days ago. We didn’t initially post it because a couple of commenters at reddit noted that, despite the landing page showing a picture of the Premier card and the $99 annual fee, there was an oddity: After clicking “submit” on their application, the page confirming their application showed a picture of the Raipid Rewards Plus card (as did the application status — neither was immediately approved) rather than the Premier card for which they had applied. However, both users later updated to confirm that they were approved for the Premier card using this link. Moral of the story: Don’t panic if you aren’t instantly approved and you see the Plus card image, but I highly suggest keeping screen shots whenever you apply for a card and then confirming your signup bonus information via Secure Message after approved.
Good time for the Companion Pass
After meeting minimum spend, you would have 104,000 Rapid Rewards points if you signed up for both the Plus and Premier cards (or 115,000 points if you signed up for one of these cards and the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Business credit card, which currently has a 60K-point signup bonus). Since the Southwest Companion Pass requires 110,000 points earned in a calendar year, these signup bonuses are definitely the path of least resistance (unless Southwest brings back the amazing promo they ran for Californians last fall, though I find that unlikely). Earning the pass early in the year is the way to go as it will then be valid for the rest of the calendar year in which you earn the 110,000 points and all of the following year — meaning that a Companion Pass earned through these signup bonuses will be valid through December 2019. Despite the fact that my wife and I already have a Companion Pass that is valid through December 31, 2018, she recently applied for two Southwest cards so that we could have a pass valid through 2019 in the hopes that Southwest follows through with the plan to begin flying to Hawaii. It would have been ideal to wait until January 2019 for a new companion pass, but since these cards are all known to be subject to the Chase 5/24 rule, we decided to strike while the iron was hot. Looks like we’ll be able to bring an extra couple with us on trips this year, which works out well since we can probably convince family members to fly for free in exchange for a little babysitting time at our destinations.
If you are interested in the 50K offers, it’s surely good news to see working links back for both of them. See our previous post or the individual card pages linked in the first paragraph for more information on each card.

Is it true that you can get the bonus every two years as long as the card is closed prior to application? Does this also apply to the business card?
Yes. You can get the bonus again on any Chase card as long as you haven’t received the signup bonus within the past 24 months and you have closed/product changed your old card (conventional wisdom says to wait at least 7 days – preferably 2-3 weeks minimum before reapplying).
Things to keep in mind:
1) Chase lumps the CSR and CSP together in this regard — if you’ve received the bonus on one within the past 24 months, you’re not eligible for the other until it’s been 24 months. See this post for more on that:
https://frequentmiler.com/2017/08/28/chase-ends-ability-double-sapphire-reserve-sapphire-preferred-bonuses/
2) All three Southwest cards are subject to the 5/24 rule. That means if you have opened 5 or more new personal credit card accounts within the past 24 months (from any bank), you will not be approved.
3) Keep in mind that the 24-month clock is counted from when you received the signup bonus, not from when you opened the card. Count from the statement cut date when the signup bonus points were awarded.
Just received companion pass through credit card bonuses. Haven’t actually flown southwest in years so I did have a couple questions hopefully someone can assist me with.
1) I have just purchased four wanna get away fares with points and also reserved my wifes flights using the companion pass. If I keep checking these flights up until departure and notice that one of the flights sells out economy class can I cancel my wife’s flight and then rebook her in business class?
2) Flights are booked under 2 one way tickets each way (outbound LAX-FLL and then FLL-SJU). Since they are booked under different record locators will they still check my bags all the way through to my final destination? It is a tight connection so I want to be sure that I can book bags all the way through when I am at LAX
Thanks for your help
Which credit agency does Chase use for these card apps?
It can vary by state/region. Chase uses Experian in most cases, but sometimes Transunion. The best resource I’ve found for this is the Credit Pulls Database at Credit Boards. You can just enter “Chase” as the Creditor Name and choose your state from the drop-down box to see what they have pulled for others (don’t choose a CRA and leave the score field blank).

Anyone know how long these cards will be available with the 50K offer? I have about 2-3 weeks left before I am under 5/24 and can apply for these cards. Also, is there a business SW 50K offer? If I can save one application for a different Chase product that would be helpful.
Thanks.
No, we don’t know for sure — but the 50K offers come around pretty often on these cards. There is usually a link for 50K floating around, and we make sure to keep our Best Offers page up to date.
As you see in the post, the current offer on the business card is for 60K points. You’ll always find links to the best offers on all three cards on our “Best Offers” page by clicking “Best Offers” at the top of any page — or click here:
