(EXPIRED) New Acorns Promo: Earn $50 When Referring, Investing & Earning

Acorns has launched a new promotion for June 2019 and, while it’s nowhere near as rewarding as some of their past promotions that offered a $1,000 bonus, it could be fairly easy earning the $50 bonus.

The Deal

• Earn $50 with Acorns when you complete the following actions:
  • Make an investment
  • Earn Found Money
  • Refer a friend

Key Terms

• Rewards for completing all three actions below are a limited time offer. Rewards are in the form of a purchase of investments in your Acorns portfolio. Shares are purchased will only be purchased if all of the following have been completed: (1) your friend’s account is approved and they have completed their first investment, (2) you make a purchase using a Found Money offer, and (3) you make at least one investment into your Acorns Core account.
• Bonuses are paid out on or around 07/15/2019.

• Acorns Referral – Friends must sign up on or after 06/01/2019 and have an account in good standing and make their first investment by 06/30/2019. Acorns defines an account in good standing as a verified investment account with a successful investment.
• Found Money Offer – Between 06/01/2019 and 6/30/2019, you must complete an eligible transaction with a Found Money partner by utilizing any of (i) the Found Money portion of the Acorns App, (ii) the Acorns Google Chrome browser extension, or (iii) a Simply Spend offer. You must comply with all of the terms and conditions of the specific Found Money offer to be complete this qualifying element of the promotion. Found Money offers with travel partners (Airbnb, CheapOair, Expedia, Hotels.com, etc.) are not eligible for this promotion.
• Core Account Investment – Between 06/01/2019 and 6/30/2019, you must make a valid transfer into your Acorns Core account. To be eligible as a qualifying element for the promotion, your transfer must settle and be invested prior to 6/30/2019.

Quick Thoughts

Past Acorns referral promotions have gone as high as $1,000, but those required referring 10-12 friends which wasn’t achievable for many people. This new promotion is far less generous, but offers an opportunity to earn $50 much more easily.

The first element is referring a friend which is probably the hardest of the three requirements. That said, it hopefully won’t be too hard convincing a friend or family member to sign up and they’ll also get a $5 referral bonus. They’ll need to make an investment by June 30, but that can be as low as $5.

The second element is earning Found Money. If you’re not familiar with Acorns’ Found Money program, it works the same way as a shopping portal, but with one additional requirement in most cases – you have to pay with a credit or debit card linked to your Acorns account.

Found Money earning rates are sometimes better than standard cashback portals and sometimes worse. The $50 bonus will likely make it worth forgoing a few cents from another portal if the Found Money rate is lower than elsewhere. Here are a few posts that share more details about Found Money:

The third element is making an investment into your core account. Seeing as the minimum investment amount when opening an account is $5, you can presumably invest an additional $5 in order to trigger this part of the promotion.

That means that if you can refer a friend, you only need to invest $5 and spend a couple of bucks at a Found Money partner in order to earn $50. You’ll also earn the standard $5 referral bonus for referring a friend, making a total of $55. That’s a pretty good return for minimal effort, so I’ve set myself a reminder to complete all three actions by the end of the month.
