The Deal

  • A new targeted Amex Offer is out for Marriott Bonvoy: Spend $250+ at participating properties in the US and US territories and get $50 back (enrollment required)

Key Terms

  • This is only valid at properties in the US and US territories, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean
  • Excludes gift card purchases
  • Not valid for online retail purchases or purchases of Marriott points
  • Excludes Marriott Vacation Club, Marriott Homes & Villas, Marriott Executive Apartments, Vistana Signature Experiences, Design Hotels, and Protea hotels (none of which are in the qualifying geographic areas)
  • Expires 3/31/22

Quick Thoughts

This can obviously be a very nice deal if you have a Marriott stay planned in the next couple of months. You should be able to stack with a shopping portal to stack a bit more savings, just click through a portal on your way to book at Marriott.com (see current rates here).

Alternatively, though the terms exclude gift card purchases, a gift card purchased at the front desk of a participating hotel has historically triggered the offer. The trick is finding a hotel that sells gift cards. Many do not and sometimes even when a hotel does sell gift cards you may find employees unfamiliar with the process. It is worth calling around before you head out to a hotel to make sure that they have gift cards for sale at the desk. A gift card purchased in the hotel gift shop most likely will not work, but one purchased at the front desk has long worked.

Either way, this is a very nice deal as it represents at least 20% back.

Stayed at a Marriott Residence Inn on Oct 31 using a free night certificate. This location did not sell the physical gift cards, but the Courtyard Marriott across town did. Bought $200 gift card at the Courtyard morning of Nov 1. So far, it looks like the offer did not work. Offer still showing on my Amex Platinum offers.

VIS

Used one offer last week and got another one now. Bonvoy !

0/7 🙁

I have a 3 night stay planned in Dec, am I able to use my Amex Plat to book for 1 night to maximize this offer and book the other two nights with a marriott card?

Anthony

Just buy a gift card at a local Marriott to be safe. Pay with that, then put the rest on the Marriott card.

Josh

Most of my local Marriott does not sell giftcards sadly

WrightHI

Wouldn’t it be easier to book all three nights on the same reservation and then split the payment across two cards when you check out? That’s worked fine any time I’ve needed to do it.

Josh

I am going to book a prepaid rate, does that still work with that?

WrightHI

No.

I had the same offer ending in September and took advantage in a big way. I was two nights away from Titanium. I stayed on night at the Sheraton Houston airport and earned a 35k cert and 1500 points under the concurrent promotions. I then stayed one night and Spring Hill suites west of Houston and earned another 35k cert and 1500 points, qualified for Titanium and had enough spend to get the $50 refund.

I then finished the weekend at the Hyatt Regency in Austin for the MotoGP races. Not a bad stack.

Boom

Yolanda

The $200 spend does not need to be in 1 transaction? Meaning I can do 2 separate reservations and as long as it is over $200 together, it should trigger the $50 off?

Buzz

Correct.
