Throughout the week, our team shares articles they’ve stumbled upon which may interest our readers, even if they might not otherwise merit a full post. Here are some of the posts we found interesting this week: New Southwest rule targets people like Nick, a baby is born as the plane lands, United app displays TSA wait times, and Delhi confronts stray dogs.
Southwest Airlines to limit passengers to one portable charger on flights

Southwest is going to start limiting passengers to one portable charger per person, prohibiting passengers from storing them in the overhead bins, and preventing passengers from recharging them in the in-seat outlets. This gives me no feelings whatsoever personally, but instantly made me think of our very own certified-travel-dad Nick Reyes. When I travel with Nick, he has this very Mary Poppins ability to magically produce whatever tiny little modern convenience I’m missing from my own luggage. One time it was a glasses case, another time a pair of headphones that could plug in using the Android USBC charging port, and on more than one occasion, a portable battery pack. This is sure to sting for him not only because of his addiction to technological gadgets, but also his frequent patronage of Southwest Airlines. Sorry, Nick!
Baby born on plane arriving at JFK airport
A woman on board a Caribbean Airlines flight gave birth to her baby literally right as the plane was landing at JFK. In the video you can hear the air traffic controller attempting to clarify with the pilot, saying you have a sick passenger?” and the pilot corrected “a passenger who is going into labor.” “Roger that!” he replies, with an endearingly changed tone. Medical attention was arranged to meet the mother upon landing.
Bravo: United is Adding TSA Wait Times to its App

If you have the United app, you’ll now be able to preview the estimated wait times for standard and TSA TSA PreCheck® security lines at seven major US airports, including Chicago-O’Hare (ORD), Denver (DEN), Houston-Intercontinental (IAH), Los Angeles (LAX), Newark (EWR), San Francisco (SFO), and Washington, D.C.-Dulles (IAD). In each case except Houston, United is collecting and calculating the information itself, not relying on the airport’s estimates. (Again, for Houston, they are using the airport’s estimates.) With a launch on Wednesday, I’m wondering: has anyone had the chance to test the accuracy yet?
Stray Dogs Keep Biting Passengers at Delhi Airport But They’re Not Going Anywhere Officials Say

Delhi has been trying to address its stray dog problem, but it’s proven to be an emotionally charged and dramatic endeavor. And now the Delhi airport is entwined in this drama too. Last year, Delhi set out to “remove” every one of the million stray dogs roaming its streets, but a public outcry against this order led to its overturn, and instead Delhi would attempt to sterilize, vaccinate, and deworm all million dogs before returning them to the streets. Then, finally, a third ruling added permission to relocate stray dogs from certain areas, like schools and airports. Because of the emotional response of the public to orders like this, the Delhi Airport has not yet decided to act on this allowance, but they have reported a rising number of dog bit incidents. Here’s where the drama shows up – some have been accusing the Delhi Airport of fabricating these dog-bites as a way of bolstering a defense for removing the dogs.
