United is back with its latest round of Mile Play offers. These are targeted offers in two ways – you need to be targeted to get an offer in the first place, then the type of task(s) to be completed to earn bonus miles is targeted.
The Deal
- Complete task(s) as part of United’s Mile Play promotion to earn bonus miles.
- Direct link to see if you’re targeted.
Key Terms
- Requirements vary.
- Only transactions initiated after registration and completed on or prior to July 30, 2022 will qualify toward satisfaction of the offer requirements.
Quick Thoughts
I wasn’t targeted for this latest round of Mile Play offers, but my wife was. United is offering her 2,500 bonus miles when booking and taking a trip by July 30, 2022 with a minimum fare of $200 before taxes and fees. That’s certainly not worth a mileage run, but would be a nice bonus if we did need to book her a flight in that timeframe.
The somewhat frustrating aspect of Mile Play promotions is that they’re only valid on flights booked after you’ve registered for the promotion. That means that if my wife already had a flight booked with United before July 30, she wouldn’t earn any bonus miles unless she were to cancel and rebook it. Whether or not that would be worth it for you will depend on your original flight’s cancellation policy and what the cost for the new flight would be.
It’s understandable why United sets up Mile Play promotions in this way though. The whole purpose of the targeted offers is to encourage MileagePlus members to book flights they might not otherwise have booked with United, so there’s no point (from United’s perspective) for rewarding activity that would have happened regardless.
