Earn United miles and Premier Qualifying points with New United Quest℠ Card offer

11

The United Quest card has a new offer out today that’s good for both a big haul of miles and a nice chunk of Premier Qualifying Points (PQPs), so it might be of particular appeal for United MileagePlus fans who are also chasing United elite status.

Quick Thoughts

This new offer will obviously have some appeal to United MileagePlus fans, as it offers a nice haul of miles. That said, the miles alone may not be enough, given that there are other current opportunities to pick up transferable points that could be moved to United if and when you are ready to book an award.

However, those chasing United elite status may find the 3,000 Premier Qualifying Points (PQPs) a strong draw. That amount brings you halfway to Premier Silver status, which ordinarily requires 6,000 PQPs (or more than halfway if you will also take 15 Premier Qualifying Flights, which reduces the PQP requirement to 5,000 PQPs).

If the PQPs would make a meaningful difference in elite status and/or you are a frequent user of United miles, this bonus could certainly make this an appealing time to consider the Quest card. I find this the most attractive of the available United credit cards, given the United TravelBank cash, credit for Renowned Hotels and Resorts, and award flight discount benefits, in addition to the checked baggage benefits. United regulars could easily come out even with the annual fee, or perhaps even better, depending on their travel patterns.

On the flip side, if you aren’t strongly tied to United, I would probably prioritize a card that earns transferable points, giving you greater flexibility in award redemption.

I am not sure if this comment was aimed at just personal cards or is inclusive of business cards too. I have a United Business card (revamped in 2025) and a United Gateway card (downgraded from a United Explorer several years ago). I did a side-by-side comparison to see if my approach makes sense (for me) as a keeper.

[As Greg has noted elsewhere, do your own evaluation based on your situation] I am not a bag-checker, so that is a moot point. I get Global Entry from any of a number of cards, so that value is $0. I doubt I ever use the Avis/Budget credit, but at least the Business does have primary CDW for business rentals, so there is a chance I would use it on a business trip. I have used the $10 Instacart credits, but I am unlikely to use the $5 credit.

IMO, it is a fairly close call for the occasional UA traveler between the value propositions of these two cards if your goal is “elite-lite” credit, i.e. priority boarding, checked bags, and a few other UA perks. With the 5K/year anniversary points, 2 United Club passes, 2x $50 United hotels credit, and the occasional time I will make 5x (4-yr expiration) $100 TravelBank purchases to get a (1-yr expiration) $125 TravelBank credit, I will stick with the $150 fee on the Business instead of the Quest. I probably book a UA award flight at least every-other year, but I still like 5K miles better than a 10K award discount, and the terms say the discount is only good on UA metal whereas miles can be used on any partner (not sure if this is enforced). But if I was going for UA status, the 1K/year PQP might swing me to the Quest. Or if the bonus TravelBank dollars did not expire in 12 months (instead of the usual 48 months on purchased funds, despite UA’s current website snafu), I would have more confidence I would avoid breakage and might choose the Quest.

Quest Business
Annual Fee $350 $150
Travelbank/year $200 $125 after 5x $100 UA purchases
Hotels $150 RH&R 2x $50 for United Hotels
Checked baggage 1st & 2nd 1st
United Club Passes 0 2
Bonus PQPs 1000/year 0
Award discount 10K/year No
Bonus miles 0 5K/year, with a personal card
PreCheck/GE Yes No
Avis/Budget credit 2x $40/year 2x $25/year
Instacart $10+$5 per mo $10/month
Rideshare credit $8/$12 per mo $8/$12 per mo
Inflight/Club benefit 25% 25%
Travel Protection Yes Yes

Piss-poor value. The Bilt Obsidian dominates it on all spend except captive.

$350! You can buy a house for that in Detroit.

As a Canadian am really envious of American cards. Maybe it’s time to join?

Andy

If you’re thinking about moving from Canada to the USA right now, one big benefit is that you definitely won’t have to wait in line.

Does Chase ever send Biz card upgrade offers after a year of card ownership, like Amex?

Raylan

Does the biz card’s higher offer also end 8/20?

Mart

Do the 3k PQPs stack with the 2k you get with the business card?

Paul

Does anyone know the time frame Chase will match an offer? I believe I got this card back in March so was going to ask about a match.

Andrew James

Any luck with this?

Raylan

Not the OP, but I was denied for a match. ~45 days after approval at the lower sign up offer.

Paul

I was denied myself. Twice actually haha. Tried for only the PQP second go around and they denied that also.
