American Express has introduced an introductory bonus tracker for those working on the minimum spend requirements to earn a welcome bonus offer.
A reddit user has posted a screen shot of the new welcome bonus tracker showing how much they have spent, the date when spending requirements needs to be completed, and how much spending is yet to be done.
It is possible that Amex is rolling this out on a targeted basis. Frankly, I’m surprised they haven’t had this before. They did have a bonus tracker like this when I opened a business checking account with them a few years ago, but I’ve never seen a similar tracker for an Amex credit card or Pay Over Time card.
Again, it is possible this will only be rolled out on some accounts. Interestingly, the person posting on reddit notes that this tracker is “similar to the one Chase has had for years”. However, I’ve never had a bonus tracker on any of my Chase cards (and a family member recently opened a Chase card and though I have checked for it several times, they never had any sort of bonus tracker). On the flip side, I noticed that my wife has a spend bonus tracker on her Citi Strata Premier card.
Frankly, I find this to be an easy enough feature to add that encourages cardholders to spend. I’m surprised that we don’t see more of these spend trackers not only for welcome bonuses, but also for big spend bonuses (while Amex does include such a tracker for Platinum cardholders to show spend toward the $75K threshold to earn free Centurion lounge guests, it is buried within the card benefits tab rather than appearing prominently on the card page upon login). I’m glad to see that they have added this bonus offer spend tracker as it surely makes it far easier for new cardholders and reduces the chance of a math error causing you to miss a welcome bonus offer requirement.

It’s true of the Chase cards having the tracker on the app for years.

I have only seen the Chase bonus tracker in the app. I have never seen it when I login from my laptop.
I have one on my new One Key card from Wells Fargo. It’s on the first page, before the Transactions listing. A nice surprise, have never had that on any other of my (current) 3 dozen cards.
Whoa. Have had the bonus tracker on Chase for a few years. On the app. Way at the bottom. Would love it it Amex followed.
Where exactly might this mythical tracker be found?
Rewards and Benefits
Thank you. Apparently no such reward or benefit for me.
I only see it on the website not the app, which is interesting. Noticed it earlier today.
Same – I see it in the app.
I thought I seen this in my new Amex cards already, going back several years
I have it! It’s really cool for multiple reasons. Two are that I put some charges on my temporary card as soon as I got approved, but only later remembered a doctor of credit post where some people seemed not to get spending credit toward sign up bonuses for charges made in the first 24 hours on the temporary card. I was wondering if I was going to have to fight, but I see that the charges indeed have been tracked. Also, it looks like charges that I made for which I received statement credits — wireless and $200 airline incidentals — both count even though I received the credit. I had heard these count, but it’s nice to see confirmed. At the end of the day, though, I’ll probably still overspend in the bonus period and not rely on this just to avoid a potential clawback. I mean, if Amex took the points back and said I was short by $210 because of these credits, what could I really say? But . . . but. . your tracker said . . . .
(How do you get a temporary card? I’ve tried asking chat with no luck — been told I have to wait till the physical card comes in the mail and I’ve activated it.)
Pop up when approved.
All of my Chase cards (11 over the last 4 years) have had a SUB spend tracker… Don’t see anything on my new Amex card though.
I see it on my account.
