Thrifty Traveler Premium reported some excellent fares today from New York and Los Angeles to both Barcelona and Paris. I’m seeing nonstop availability on United to Paris from $265 RT. Note that these fares are basic economy, but that still includes a carry-on and food, so if you don’t care where you sit and you can pack light, you can get to Europe awfully cheap next year.
The Deal
- Cheap nonstop United basic economy flights from New York and also great deals from Los Angeles to Paris and Barcelona during spring and fall 2019
- Link to Google Flights to play with dates
Quick Thoughts
While a far cry from the flat bed flights that you might have in mind for your miles and points, you can nonetheless get to Europe and back for about the cost of taxes and surcharges on many award tickets. This deal is pretty attractive for nonstop service and you do get a carry-on bag and meals with United in basic economy. You’re giving up a seat assignment, so that’s something to consider. At these prices, it might be well worth it.
Searching Google Flights will yield prices around $315 round trip. The cheapest prices are available via small online travel agencies at metasearch site Momondo. Keep in mind that when booking through a smaller OTA, you’ll want to check the fine print in terms of cancellation policy and keep customer service expectations low. That said, you can save $50 per person over the regular prices here, and that savings may certainly be worthwhile.
The cheapest prices are available in April, September, and October. Here’s a look at New York to Paris from September 16-23 through Google Flights:
Find the cheap dates and then plug them into Momondo and you’ll see the prices drop:
Overall, these are some excellent deals for nonstop travel to Europe during shoulder season, when you’ll probably find fewer tourists and more reasonable prices / hotel award availability. Note that the flights out of Los Angeles are not nonstop, but still quite competitively priced.
