Office Depot and OfficeMax haven’t been producing weekly ads for the last few weeks. They’re still running promotions though, with one in-store offer giving a $13 instant discount when buying $300 or more of Mastercard gift cards.
The Deal
- Save $13 when buying $300+ Mastercard gift cards at Office Depot and OfficeMax.
Key Terms
- Expires April 4, 2020.
- Limit 1 per household/business.
Quick Thoughts
Needless to say, none of us should be going out to Office Depot or OfficeMax at the moment for the sole purpose of buying Mastercard gift cards – manufactured spending isn’t worth the risk to yourself and other people. These stores do sell some essential items though, so it can be worth checking their stores if your local grocery stores and drugstores have sold out of toilet paper, household cleaner, sanitizing wipes, etc.
If you do end up in one of their stores buying other items, it might be worth throwing a couple of these gift cards in your basket or cart. The $13 instant discount will offset the activation fee for a $200 and $100 Mastercard gift card. If you have a credit card that earns 5x at office supply stores, you’d still be better off buying two $200 Mastercard gift cards. Even though you’d be paying $0.90 in net activation fees, the rewards you’d earn on that additional $100 of spend would outweigh that cost.
Mastercard gift cards have had a number of issues over the last few months, from balances being drained by fraudsters pretty much the moment they’re activated to balances being zeroed out when being used for certain transactions in grocery stores. The rewards you’d earn from this deal might therefore not be worth the potential hassle.
My Office Depot removed the gift card rack within the past few weeks when Michigan started advising social distancing and putting travel restrictions in place.
I think it’s socially irresponsible to post these deals for the next couple of months. If someone finds themselves in a Staples/OM/OD looking for TP or wipes, and comes across the sale, good for them. Don’t give any other people any more incentive to leave their homes. Else we’re going to be on lockdown for longer than necessary
Well my OD / OM have pulled the GC kiosks altogether. They removed them due to some fraud issue with FUZE cards. I’m in STL and have checked 3 and the results were all the same. I discovered this on Sunday. I have heard from others that this has happened as well though I’m not sure where they were located.
Mgr said he was sure when they would be back.
I’ll only break quarantine for a Visa promo at the full $15 discount. I’m not going to risk other people’s lives for MCGC’s.
So at least we know what your price is for risking other people’s lives. 2 bucks .
Actually my store lets me do another transaction so it’s actually 4 bucks.
I stand corrected.
You ever hear someone say something so outrageous it dawns on you that it’s a joke? My guess is no. Jesus Christ, someone just sneeze in my face and end this misery now.
In today’s climate ,it doesn’t seem so outrageous . I kinda knew it was a joke ,but obviously you thought my reply was serious? Better wear a mask.
Or get a Santeria ritual done to protect you by having the santero spit water on your neck…I hear it works in Cuba…
Really? You’re posting this? What’s wrong with you? On what planet do you live? Stay home!
Which is exactly what I wrote in the post. However, some OD/OM stores carry essentials like toilet paper, so people will still be going to those stores.
