(EXPIRED) (Confirmed) 15% transfer bonus from Amex to Avianca LifeMiles

Update 11/21/23: LifeMiles sent out an email today confirming the existence of this transfer bonus, so it looks like everyone transferring Membership Rewards is eligible for the bonus. The bonus takes place on the LifeMiles side which is why it doesn’t show when logged in to your Amex account when conducting the transfer. It’s due to end on December 10, 2023, so still plenty of time to make use of it.

Dan’s Deals is reporting multiple data points of people receiving a 15% transfer bonus on transfers from American Express Membership Rewards to Avianca LifeMiles. This bonus is not advertised anywhere, so you won’t know if you’re getting it in advance — so I only recommend transferring if you were already planning to make a transfer to LifeMiles anyway.

• Some people are reporting an unadvertised 15% transfer bonus from Amex Membership Rewards to Avianca LifeMiles. Note that there is no guarantee you will get this, it is not advertised and you will not see it reflected when initiating the transfer. Proceed at your own risk.

Quick Thoughts

I love Avianca LifeMiles for its many sweet spots (I will soon fly the JFK to Lisbon TAP Air Portugal route for 35K miles per passenger in business class thanks to LifeMiles!). Making those sweet spots a bit cheaper with a 15% transfer bonus can be awesome.

Unfortunately, this is an unadvertised bonus. It’s unclear to me whether this is a glitch in the matrix, a targeted offer, or a planned offer that has gone live ahead of schedule. Any way you slice it, it’s impossible to know if you’re going to get the bonus in advance. You could try a small test transfer first, but the problem with that technique is that, in my experience, it exponentially increases the odds of transfer #2 getting locked up for fraud prevention concerns (and I’m not aware of any way to speed along that second transfer when it gets caught).

However, if you’re a gambler and/or confident that you’ll use the extra LifeMiles, this could be a cool bonus. With Star Alliance business class to Europe at 63K or less each way, this transfer bonus could certainly make for some great value. Personally, I’m going to hold off unless and until there is some public communication of the details.
