Bank of America has notified Travel Rewards card holders that the ability to redeem points for grocery, takeout, and dining purchases is now a permanent feature of the card. This is a great move that makes this no-annual-fee card a decent option for a welcome bonus even for those who aren’t traveling at the moment.
Prior to the pandemic, Travel Rewards could be redeemed for travel (though there was some latitude in that definition). Bank of America had expanded redemptions to include grocery and dining last year, but now they are making those redemptions a permanent feature. This makes rewards fairly cash-like and could certainly make the welcome bonus worthwhile even during these times of less frequent travel.
