Reminder: last day for grandfathered Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardholders to preserve value by combining points

23

We wanted to post a quick reminder that today (10/25/25) is the last day for Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardholders who had their cards before 6/23/25 to earn points (or combine from other existing cards) and maintain access to a minimum Chase Travel℠ redemption rate of 1.5c per point with those points through October 26, 2027. Newly earned points or those combined to a Sapphire Reserve account starting 10/26/27 will only be eligible for Points Boost. As a reminder, this post is only relevant to those who opened their Chase Sapphire Reserve card prior to June 23, 2025.

If you opened your Chase Sapphire Reserve card on or after June 23, 2025, this post does not apply to you. Those with Sapphire Reserve cards opened prior to June 23, 2025 can enjoy a grandfathered redemption rate of 1.5c per point through October 26, 2027, but only on points earned or combined to their Sapphire Reserve account before  10/26/27. In other words, today is the last day to get points into your “old” Sapphire Reserve account.

At this point, it is probably too late for grandfathered cardholders to earn any “new” points. However, if you have multiple Ultimate Rewards-earning cards, you might have those points spread across a variety of cards. Chase has a useful ‘Combine Points’ feature that lets you move those points from one card to another. They’ve confirmed that if you combine your points to your eligible card (most pertinently a Sapphire Reserve if you have one) by October 25, 2025, those points will also be redeemable at the historical 1.5c rate through October 26, 2027.

It is worth noting that you will get the higher value between 1.5c per point and the Points Boost rate, so you may be able to get 1.75c or even 2c per point in value. Moving points to your Sapphire Reserve card now simply locks in a minimum redemption rate of 1.5c per point for points redeemed through Chase Travel.

Listen to our Coffee Break episode about preparing for this transition for full thoughts about how to best prepare, and Stephen’s post from when this information was first released, but be aware that today is the last day to take action.

I just moved a LOT of points from all my Chase accounts, and half of P2’s accounts, to my Sapphire, locking in the 1.5X benefit for 2 years. So all our 1.5X points are in my account, and a smaller (but still significant) number of points remain in her account.

Now I have a question about the two “buckets” and how to best utilize points in the short-term while also preserving as many 1.5X points for 2 years…

P2 still has a pile of points (and no Sapphire). And of course, both myself and P2 will still be accumulating “new” (non-1.5X) points going forward. If we want to use some of those NEW points for other things (eg to transfer directly to a Chase partner airline), is there any way to do that and only use “new” points? I would be using points from P2’s account (we still have a bunch there). Going forward, if I always transfer all “new” points out of my accounts (where they will be earned) and stash them in P2s account, will that “preserve” my existing stash of grandfathered 1.5X points?

Separate but related question: Is there any reason NOT to transfer ALL of our points (today) to my Sapphire account to preserve the 1.5X benefit for those points? The only possible benefit I can see to that would be to not disturb my stash of grandfathered 1.5X points if/when I want to transfer some points directly to Hyatt, United, etc.

I still have a few hours and a pretty good pile of points in P2s account. I could move the rest of them over right away, or I could leave them in her account for when the day comes when we want to transfer directly to another partner.

Any advice on that welcome. Thanks.

Larry

Does the same apply for the Chase INK PREFERRED points at the 1.25CPP value? Also, if my player 2 transfers her points into my CIP, do I retain that 1.25CPP value?

Nick

I’ve got 100k points sitting on a Chase Freedom. Given that I only signed up for the CSR in September, this would deem me ineligible for the offer? Any points combined would be at a 1:1 rate?

Melvin

Combining points doesn’t work for me, whether using chrome, safari, edge, or iOS or android App. It used to work.
What a distaster!

Jason

Still works for some, I just moved 10.5k points from Freedom to CSR online – using a chrome browser on desktop PC.

Jimmy

I just combined points and it worked. I was moving out of my CSR to my Ink Preferred because I am about to close the CSR, so I don’t know if that makes a difference.

Peter

It’s also a good day to pre-pay travel expenses if you want 3x UR points for non-hotel travel. Yes those points will not get 1.5cpp as you will not get them until post-10/26.

Jed

I’m seeing reports that chase apparently made the change today instead of Oct 26. Points transferred today do not show as eligible for 1.5x.

Tracy

That is my experience. “We updated our rewards program on October 26, 2025″. Ummm….October 25, 2025 hasn’t happened yet. Hopefully they’ll make this right.

Jeff

I am seeing the same thing. Hopefully you are right. It clearly says what you quoted. I just saved a pdf of the page with date and time on the header and footer in case this turns into something.

Greg

There’s a comment on this reddit post (https://www.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/comments/1ofq4r5/psa_chase_cut_off_15x_points_on_csr_early/) from Chase, saying:

We know some customers are attempting to combine points today (Oct. 25) due to benefit changes. Don’t worry, if you combine points today and they do not appear in your “Eligible Points,” they’ll be shifted to your Eligible Points bucket automatically within 1 billing cycle. if you need your points sooner, please call us using the number on the back of your card.

Jed

That is good news. Thanks.

Kadels

Thanks for this – somehow I completely missed it. I hardly ever book with Chase points (I transfer to hotel/airline). But I went ahead and combined everything just in case.

Patrick

How do they keep track of old vs. new?

Jed

I doubt they will reveal exactly how. I assume it is just their internal software. But their website will show how may points you have which are eligible for 1.5x

clark

WOW! Thank you. I just discovered a 50K+ transfer last week to my CSR didn’t process. Your reminder has saved my day.

Kenisha

Does this apply to combining points in your house hold? I would have P2 send me their points if so

Just booked EK award for 150k points -points boost
– better than paying 150k EK AND 1000$ taxes
