Quick Thoughts
We’ve used Rover numerous times over the past 6-7 years and have always had a good experience. You can search for doggy day care and dog sitting services in your local area, or in the area you’ll be visiting if you’re traveling domestically. Rover has a rating system that’s similar to eBay, Airbnb, etc., so you can read reviews and see how many repeat clients each person has had which can help alleviate concerns you might have about the person looking after your dog.
If you’re traveling overseas for a longer period of time, you can sometimes get a discount for longer dog sitting stays. Even if your dog is traveling with you domestically, Rover can be useful if you’ll be out all day and so want your pup to be looked after while you’re out. We’ve done that a few times when lengthy activities we’ve been doing haven’t been dog-friendly like Bridge Day in West Virginia and visiting a water park in Wisconsin.
If you’ve never used Rover before, you can earn 2,000 American Airlines AAdvantage miles by signing up here. You’ll then earn 1 mile per dollar spent on Rover in the future; once you’ve linked your Rover and AAdvantage accounts once, you’ll automatically earn those additional miles on future bookings without needing to go back through the portal.
