Sam’s Club started selling discounted gift cards for Southwest and Hawaiian Airlines gift cards this past week, with the discount available on Hawaiian Airlines gift cards being even better than that offered by Costco.
The Deal
- Sam’s Club is offering discounts on the following airline gift cards (our affiliate links):
Key Terms
- Southwest – limit 3 per membership.
- Hawaiian – limit 4 per membership.
Quick Thoughts
Costco has been offering a 10% discount on $500 Southwest gift cards for quite some time, but it’s great to see the same offer available at Sam’s Club seeing as there’ll be a lot of people with a Sam’s Club membership who don’t have a Costco membership.
Costco also started offering a 10% discount on Hawaiian Airlines gift cards recently, but Sam’s Club’s offer is even better seeing as it’s a 12% discount, reducing the $500 face value cards to $440.
There are a couple of potential added benefits of the Sam’s Club offers compared to Costco. Gift card purchases from Sam’s Club sometimes track through shopping portals, so you might be able to earn some additional cashback that way.
A second potential benefit is if you have a Cash App debit card. There’s a (possibly targeted) Boost for Sam’s Club which gives a 5% instant discount on SamsClub.com purchases. That can be used every rolling 24 hours and has a limit of $20 off which means the offer is good on up to $400 of spend.
That means a $500 Southwest gift card with the Cash App Boost applied will only cost $429.99 (a 14% discount), while a $500 Hawaiian Airlines gift card would cost $420 (a 16% discount).
Note that by solely redeeming gift cards for a flight booking you’d be forgoing travel protections, so that’s something to weigh up when deciding whether to buy these.
Nice stack for those who have it – for some, Cash app boost for Sam’s Club may now be 10% for the next 15 days. https://www.doctorofcredit.com/square-cash-debit-card-cash-boost-get-cash-back-on-categories-specific-merchants/
How does the Cash app boost works?
You add the Sam’s Club Boost to your debit card using the Cash app, then it’ll automatically deduct 5% (up to $20) when paying for a transaction at SamsClub.com with that card.
