The year 2020 has brought us many unexpected things. An Amex Offer to save 10% at McDonald’s (up to $5) is the latest (small) oddity. I don’t think we’ve ever seen a McDonald’s Amex Offer and while I’m not quite so focused on small wins like this, I have to admit that this kind of makes me want a sausage McGriddle.

Quick Thoughts
Apparently this must be a highly-targeted offer because I didn’t find it on any of the cards in my household, but Greg sent it to me after finding it on one of his cards. Clearly, they have carefully analyzed our purchase history and know which one of us is in their target demographic.
At any rate, I thought this was interesting because I’ve never seen an Amex Offer for something like McDonald’s. With offers for extra points per dollar spent at Tiffany and Salvatore Ferragamo and that sort of thing on some cards, it seems odd to target customers with 10% back at Mickey D’s, but I guess the battle to be your go-to card has been heating up for a while now. And as indicated at the top, I’d be lying if this didn’t make me at least think about McDonald’s for breakfast this morning (though I didn’t get farther than thinking about it).
If you happen to find this offer on an Amex Gold card, I suppose that is a win since you should earn 4 points per dollar on restaurant purchases on that card already. An extra 10%, though a small win here, is a win indeed if you have the offer.

i’ve honestly stopped getting food from fast food chains during the pandemic because of their atrocious sick leave policies. But this does make me want to get some fries.

This showed up about a week ago on my AU’s Gold, along with a Dunkin’ offer (same terms as the McDonald’s offer). My card got neither.
Nothing on my Amex accounts, but it is a pretty regular offer on the CashApp. 10% off max of $7.50. Interesting to see Amex getting into the tiny wins offers. Maybe they’ll start offering more of them. I regularly get 15% back at Chick-fil-a through CashApp, I don’t know why they keep giving it to me, I only use the card for boosted purchases, but I’ll take it!
