Reminder that this is live again 12/20 though 12/23 for those interested. Keep in mind that Hyatt gift cards had rampant fraud issues years ago. I thin they’ve resolved that, but I still wouldn’t buy a huge quantity without a near-term plan to use them.
Hyatt has announced that they’ll be offering a 10% discount on their gift cards when using promo code WINTER19. This deal will be available between two four-day periods in the coming month.
The Deal
- Save 10% on Hyatt gift cards when using promo code WINTER19.
- Direct link to offer.
Key Terms
- Offer valid November 29 to December 2, 2019 and December 20-23, 2019.
- Redeemable at participating Hyatt hotels in North America, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, Central America and South America.
Quick Thoughts
Hyatt’s eGift card purchases are processed by Buyatab, so it won’t code as a Hyatt purchase which I discovered in the past when trying to trigger a Hyatt Regency Amex Offer and the hotel processed the payment through the Buyatab site.
A 10% discount is a nice discount, but it’s often possible to get larger discounts courtesy of Amex and Chase Offers. These gift cards can be helpful to have on hand for instances when there isn’t an Amex Offer that lines up with your stays though. You can’t redeem their gift cards online though, so they’re not redeemable for prepaid stays.
Note that the promo code is only valid during two different four day periods, the first of which starts on Black Friday.

Doesn’t seem to be working. Getting an “Invalid Code” error.
It’s working for me, so it might’ve been a temporary issue.
Since it’s not Hyatt spend, I’d be foregoing 4 Hyatt points for 2 Thankyou points so it’s not really 10% off?
It depends on which card you use. I used the BoA Cash Rewards card with Online Shopping selected as my 3% category. I was also targeted for a bonus 6% on Online Shopping on that card, so I received 9% cashback in addition to the 10% off which worked out to be an 18.1% discount overall. That was worth it for me, despite forgoing the 4x by paying for stays with my Hyatt card.

A few years ago I lost thousands of dollars on Hyatt cards that I bought through cardcash.com. It seemed like there was tons of fraud on them, do you know if that is still the case?
My understanding is that they’ve tightened up security on them as the old cards didn’t have PINs whereas the new ones do.
I’m happy to hear that they’ve tightened up security. But if memory serves, the old ones had PINs, too. Whatever the problem was, it wasn’t that.
