Quick Thoughts
For anyone who’ll have a paid stay at Fairmont, this is a great deal that could save you a decent amount of money on your stay.
Note that the offer gives a 20% bonus rather than a 20% discount which means that you’re getting a 16.67% discount. That’s still good, but worth being aware of in case that influences your decision as to whether or not to take advantage of this deal.
Payments for the gift cards are processed by Buyatab, so unfortunately this won’t code as a travel purchase.
My fear is if they were to become “Sofitel” hotels tomorrow (or be known by any other name), could I still use them? I’m not sure if these can be used at other Accor properties. The Fairmont name exists mostly in spirit given the Accor buyout
Wait so if I just booked a stay a couple of days ago, I can use this gift card to partially pay for the stay?
Yep!
What do they mean by a 20% “bonus” – if I were to owe, say $1500 for my stay payable upon my stay, should I purchase the $1500 gift card and then do how do I get the bonus – is it for a future purchase? Or when I purchase the $1500 gift card, does it cost 16% less?
If you bought a $1,500 gift card, you’d get a bonus gift card worth $300 for a total of $1,800.
If your stay was to cost $1,500, you’d want to buy a $1,250 gift card because the 20% bonus gift card would be worth $250, giving you a total of $1,500.
Thank you Stephen! So what does this mean? Note that the offer gives a 20% bonus rather than a 20% discount which means that you’re getting a 16.67% discount.
1. Select the dollar amount of your gift card.
2. Get a gift card worth 20% more than the amount you selected.
or if you prefer this mathematically identical explanation …
1. Buy a gift card worth a certain dollar amount.
2. Pay 16.67% less than that dollar amount for your gift card.
For example, if you buy a $100 gift card, you get a $20 bonus gift card. That’s a 20% bonus, but because you’re paying $100 for $120 worth of gift cards, that’s a 16.67% discount on $120 of value.
I love Fairmont properties. I just wish they were part of a better loyalty program…
