Quick Thoughts

Getting to save up to 20% on Airbnb stays is a rare opportunity. Usually the best way to save on Airbnb bookings is to stock up on their gift cards when they go on sale for ~10% off, so potentially being able to save twice that percentage is a great deal.

There are a couple of important things to note. One is that payment has to be made by December 31, 2022. During the booking process Airbnb lets you pay half the cost of your stay immediately and the other half later on, so you’ll need to make sure you charge at least $500 of your stay before the end of the year in order to earn the $100 statement credit. This ability to split the cost of your stay means you might be able to double dip statement credits if your stay is before the end of December. If you have this Airbnb Amex Offer on one of your cards and your partner has the offer on one of theirs and you have a reservation costing $1,000+, you could pay half now with one card to get $100 back, then change the payment method for the second half of the reservation to the other card to get another $100 back.

Another important thing to be aware of is that buying Airbnb gift cards won’t trigger the Amex Offer because payment for their gift cards is processed by a third party.

When making a reservation, be sure to click through from Delta or British Airways to earn bonus SkyMiles or Avios respectively.

So sad! 0/15 for me and P2…

Angela

We didn’t have it across 4 cards. Added some offers hoping to get it to appear. It didn’t.

I just checked all my AMEX cards – I do not have the offer on any of them (Platinum, Delta Platinum, Hilton Surpass, Amex Cash Blue Preferred)

Tom from NC

This offer appeared on my cards after I just made a $1000 final payment on an AirBnB for next weekend. Frustrating. But then I thought about it and, after the Host told me they would be unaffected, I decided to cancel the reservation (it was cancelable without penalty) and rebook to get the $100. When I went back into my AMEX account to add the offer it was gone! I tried adding dozens of other offers to get it to reappear but to no avail. On the bright side, when I rebooked, the price had dropped by over $200, so it was still a win but I learned a valuable lesson about adding offers as soon as you see them.
