Quick Thoughts
If you’re aiming to earn a Companion Pass by the end of the year, this latest promo has the potential to make that significantly easier. Earning 2x qualifying points on paid flights, 3x on business flights, 1x on award flights and 2x on credit card spend could give your qualifying points total a massive boost.
Something important to note here is that Southwest is only offering bonus Companion Pass qualifying points, not redeemable Rapid Rewards points. You therefore won’t be earning points that can be used for award flights. You can mix and match earning double qualifying points via paid flights and credit card spend, but earning via award travel won’t help you in that sense. That’s because a Companion Pass is earned by earning either 135,000 qualifying points or taking 100 qualifying flights. 2x points versus paid flights and credit card spend counts towards the former, while paid and award flights count towards the latter although you’ll only earn 1x for both of those. You only need to earn via qualifying points or flights – not both.
Does anyone know if credit card purchases made during November but post to the southwest RR account in December will still count for the promo?
I was confused by something in the disclaimer – do you get 1x for all flights booked with points or only when you’re flying?
We have a trip to Mexico coming up in November and I booked our flights from P2’s account. If I rebook all our flights with his account will he get 1x on all the points or just the points used to book his flights?
Here’s the sentence that through me “ Only the Member who is flying will receive credit for the travel completed, regardless of who booked the reservation or whose points were redeemed for the ticket.”
My credit card statement closes tomorrow and around 3500 points will get posted.
Now will these turn into 7000 companion qualifying points ?
I am 35000 points short for the companion pass.
I don’t know if they’ll double. On the one hand I doubt they will as I imagine it’ll be for transactions after you’ve registered. However, I don’t know if Southwest gets provided that much information by Chase, so perhaps they’ll double anything posting after you’ve registered. Let us know what happens.
Unfortunately will only know by 12/30. These are sponsored by SW ,not chase. SW will post these companion points only after the promotion ends i.e 11/30 and before 12/30.
They have kept a bad timeline where there is no chance of fixing the mistakes or assumptions / misunderstanding for people who are trying for companion pass.
Irony is this promotion is targeted for those people who are chasing those companion qualifying points.
If you guys have contact with SW , please reach out to them to provide more clarifications
I agree with this. It would be nice to know when the doubling of credit card spend for companion pass will hit our southwest accounts. Will it be 2023 or 2024? I’m working on spending enough in 2023. Having only to spend half of what I need would be great.
the 100 qualifying flights…is that RT or just 100 one ways?
Thanks
100 one-ways
