Over the weekend, Southwest Airlines announced a promotion to earn double Southwest Rapid Rewards points when you register and book between 6/7/25 and 6/9/25 and fly by 11/19/25. That means that today is the last day for this promotion, so if you will be flying Southwest in the coming months, today is potentially a good day to book.

Quick Thoughts

I simplified a bit above — technically, you could have registered as early as 6/6, but you need to have booked between 6/7 and 6/9/25 in order to earn double Rapid Rewards points.

If you have travel to book during the qualifying window, it obviously makes sense to consider booking it now.

That said, I’m lukewarm on this promotion for several reasons:

  • Southwest drastically cut earnings on Wanna Get Away fares a few months ago. Even at double points, you’ll earn less today than you would have on a flight of the same cash price in February.
  • Southwest flight credits now expire after 6-12 months from the date you booked, so booking sooner than necessary is no longer ideal

That second point is the one that would give me pause. If the price is right (which is to say that if the price of the flight right now is what you want to pay for your trip), then by all means book and earn more points. But I’m less excited about booking Southwest flights for travel far in the future these days. Whereas I was once happy to lock in a trip far in advance with the knowledge that I could cancel later if plans changed, I’m more hesitant now and the double points here probably aren’t enough to move the needle for me.

That said, if I had a trip coming where the price was good and I was highly confident I’d travel, then I’d be happy to pick up extra points through this promotion.
