Southwest has launched a sale today that can save you 20% on award flights when using promo code SAVE20NOW. You’ll need to book quickly though as this sale is only around for a couple more days and the lowest prices will likely sell out quickly.

- Offer is valid for domestic and international travel.
- The 20 percent promotion code savings is valid for one-way or round trip Wanna Get Away, Wanna Get Away Plus, Anytime, and Business Select fares booked with Rapid Rewards points from October 18 through October 20, 2022 and flown during the Promotional Period, and is applied before taxes and fees.

- This discount is only available through Southwest.com and swabiz.com.

- Discount will apply only for dates within the Promotional Period. If one segment of the trip is outside the Promotional Period and one is within the Promotional Period, only the portion of travel falling within the Promotional Period will be discounted.
- Changes made to the itinerary after purchase will eliminate qualification for this promotion.
- The discount is only valid with the provided promotion code and is not combinable with other promotion codes or fares.
- All reward travel is subject to taxes, fees, and other government or airport-imposed charges of at least $5.60 per one-way trip. Applicable taxes, fees, and other government or airport-imposed charges can vary significantly based on your arrival and departure destination. The payment of any taxes, fees, and other government or airport-imposed charges is the responsibility of the Passenger and must be paid at the time reward travel is booked with a credit card, flight credit, or Southwest gift card.
- When traveling on reward travel, you will receive all fare product features except for earning Rapid Rewards points.
- Any change in itinerary may result in an increase in points. Points bookings are subject to change until ticketed.
- If you cancel your reservation at least ten (10) minutes prior to the scheduled departure of your flight, any remaining unused points will be returned to your Rapid Rewards account.
- Offer is not redeemable for cash, and may not be used in conjunction with other special offers, or toward the purchase of a gift card or previously-booked flight, or changed to a previously-booked flight.
- Discount is not valid on group travel, Southwest Vacations, and government fares.
Quick Thoughts
Southwest sometimes offers promo codes that reduce the cost of paid flights which in turn reduces the redemption requirement for award flights given the link between the two in the Rapid Rewards program.
This latest promo code though only works on award flights. Depending on your travel dates and where you’re traveling to, flights can be booked for as low as 1,876 Rapid Rewards points or possibly even fewer than that.
This promo code is valid on flights for the next two months, with the only blackout dates being those around Thanksgiving time. Having said that, both Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday are eligible for this award sale which could be useful if you wanted to go Black Friday shopping a little further afield.
For example, someone living in Chicago without any commitments could fly to Minneapolis/St. Paul on Thanksgiving Day, shop all day at Mall of America on Black Friday and take the last flight of the night back to Chicago – all for fewer than 6,000 points each way. That doesn’t sound appealing to me in the slightest, but I’m sure there are some people who love doing stuff like that.
You’ll want to book quickly though because this promo code expires on October 20 and the lowest prices will likely sell out quickly. Southwest lets you cancel flights up to 10 minutes beforehand for a full refund of your points and taxes/fees, so you can book as speculatively as you like if you have any potential travel in the next couple of months.
any chance swa will bring back ability to change flight dates w/o paying fare increase? this way can book award flights during promo period and then change to more expensive flights in jan.
