Southwest has begun selling tickets to Hawaii this morning. We’re seeing $49(!!) fares (or just 1,950 Rapid Rewards points) from Oakland and San Jose to Maui and Honolulu, with service beginning March 17, 2019. We will post with more information soon, but we wanted to get this post out ASAP so readers could get a first crack at these fares.
For some reason, the taxes come out a bit higher than other domestic flights at $14.90.
Although, oddly, adding a Companion still only costs $5.60.
That said, I have been getting an error upon trying to add a companion, so I’m not totally sure what the deal is at the moment.
Update: I did not initially see connecting itineraries, but it seems they are available, just not from all airports. Here’s one from Phoenix.
More to come.

[…] this flash sale isn’t amazing and certainly isn’t as stellar as the recent Southwest launch offers for Hawaii, if you’re SkyMiles-rich and don’t want to pay cash for a trip to Hawaii, this could be […]
I never saw $14.90 taxes? But thanks!
Called SW and they won’t say when they’ll be offering flights out of SFO, fyi.
OMG
[…] blew up the blogosphere with news that at long last they are starting service to Hawaii (See: Southwest to Hawaii from $49 / 2K points!). Whether you’re excited because you’ve got a Companion Pass ready to rock and roll or […]
Thank you so much for posting about this. I got 3 tickets for my family for less than my tickets to San Diego. Thank you so much for what you do! My top 3 blogs that I never miss to read. Thank you again! 🙂
Still holding out for Sacramento but man that’s tempting…
I am not yet seeing SJC as a possible to Maui, but I can see some OAK availability.
SJC starts in May I believe. Working on a more comprehensive post. Connecting itineraries from places like Chicago, Baltimore, etc seem to start 2nd week of April.
I tried to look up a flight from bwi in July but return flights were not available. looks like 35k each way
Boy is that Cheap let’s hope the other airlines drop their price too . An INKer can go anyway .
Another good thing I can use SW points now for HNL travel and the other points for international travel So Things are Looking as in Up..
