American Express is offering a new 30% bonus when transferring Membership Rewards to Hilton Honors. This bonus won’t be for everyone and that’s not just because of the value proposition – it looks like it’s a targeted bonus that not everyone will have access to.

- Expires December 31, 2023.
Amex normally transfers to Hilton on a 1,000:2,000 basis, so the 30% bonus boosts that ratio to 1,000:2,600. That’s not spectacular value, but if you can maximize your redemptions – especially with the 5th night free benefit – then you can still get some good value by transferring Membership Rewards to Hilton.
While a 30% transfer bonus to Hilton is fairly common, what isn’t as common is the fact that it looks like the existence of the bonus in the first place is targeted. There have been times in the past where Amex has offered various bonuses to Hilton on a targeted basis such as 30% for some people, 40% for others and even 50%. When I saw that I had a 30% offer, I checked my wife’s account to see if she had anything better and was surprised to see she didn’t have a transfer bonus listed on her account at all.
There’s also been the odd occasion in the past when there have been targeted transfer bonuses that only appear the first time when you log in, but disappear after that like it’s been sponsored by Snapchat. I doubt that’s the case here (I think it only happened with Cathay Pacific in the past), but if this is a bonus that you’ll definitely want to make use of, that’s worth bearing in mind. That said, with the transfer bonus being listed as expiring on December 31, 2023, I find it hard to believe that it won’t be there the next time you log in if you were targeted initially.
