Targeted 36% back at IHG, 45% back at Sixt, and more from Capital One Shopping

Capital One Shopping is a public shopping portal (no Capital One card necessary) that is known for its sometimes outlandish cash back offers. In recent days, we’ve received a lot of reports of elevated email offers that have included things like 36% back at IHG Hotels & Resorts, 45% back at Sixt rental cars, 36% back at Hertz, 30% back at lululemon, and more. It is also worth scrolling your homepage as I found 90% back at Tuft & Needle today, which has me considering a mattress purchase.

The Deal

  • Capital One Shopping is sending out some excellent targeted email offers for popular travel brands. If you are in the market for some bookings, it might be worth clicking around on booking sites to see if you get targeted

Quick Thoughts

Capital One Shopping often features elevated cash back rates that far exceed what we see through other portals. For those unfamiliar, there are a few key things to know about Capital One Shopping:

  • You do not need a Capital One credit card or Capital One account. This portal is owned by Capital One, but anyone can use it with any credit card
  • Rewards earned through Capital One Shopping can only be redeemed for gift cards, and the gift card selection sometimes changes (though it’s been more reliable over the past 4-6 months)
  • We see a higher-than-average number of reader complaints about Capital One Shopping deals not tracking properly. My own experience with Capital One shopping has been excellent (I’ve earned more than $10,000 worth of rewards over time through Capital One Shopping, without significant issues). However, some readers have sworn off the portal over deals that did not track properly. Your mileage may vary.

Keep in mind that travel purchases usually track as “ineligible”. However, I’ve had positive experiences with travel purchases for hotels and tours changing to “pending” (and eventually credited) after travel is completed. I do hate that their policy is that travel purchases may show up as ineligible on the front end.

Greg and Stephen have both received offers for 36% from IHG over the past few days as well as offers of 40-60% back at GetYourGuide. Readers in our Frequent Miler Insiders group have shared screen shots of things like 45% back at Sixt rental car, 36% back at IHG and Hertz, 30% back at lululemon, and more.

Email offers tend to be the best offers I see from Capital One Shopping, but every now and then I find a gem on the Capital One Shopping home page. While looking at my own Capital One Shopping account earlier today, I noticed 90% back at Tuft & Needle, up to $1,000 back.

We have been considering a new mattress, and that may be enough to get me to try out Tuft & Needle. At the very least, I’ll probably order some bedding, which I imagine will be a good deal with 90% back.

While targeted email offers can come at any time, we often find that we get targeted for stores we browse in the browser where we have the Capital One Shopping extension installed. For instance, I am in need of a car rental where Sixt has competitive prices, so just before writing this post, I went to the Sixt website in the browser where I have the extension installed to browse around for cars, but I didn’t make a reservation. About 16 minutes after I finished writing the last sentence of this post, I got an email offer for 45% back at Sixt, 30% back at Budget, 36% back at Hertz, and more.

That’s a crazy deal at Tuft and Needle. I bought a mattress and other stuff for $1,065. It seems to have tracked in my shopping history.

Are using coupons still a problem? It used to make you ineligible.
