Shopping portal Rakuten is targeting some users for 15% back / 15x Membership Rewards points at a number of popular stores today (and while they are offering a “triple cash back” event for many popular retailers, some of those rates are also increased for those targeted for 15x). Lenovo may be of particular interest given current Amex Offers for either 15% back (up to $100) or $100 back on $500 or more. This would make for a nice stack. I also found 25% / 25x Membership Rewards points for Sixt Rental Car, which could be a great return if you’re renting via Sixt.
The Deal
- Rakuten has increased payouts at many retailers with a general “3x cash back” promotion, but some users have been targeted for 15% / 15x Membership Rewards points (or even more at some retailers!). It’s worth checking your account to see if you are targeted.
- Direct link
If you don’t have a Rakuten account, there’s a $30 bonus referral bonus for new members who sign-up and spend at least $30 through the portal within the first 90 days. If you’d like to use one of our referral links, you’ll find them below. We’ll get $30 as well.
Key Terms
- No end date listed, but likely today (9/5/22) only
- See individual retailer pages for specific terms / exclusions
Quick Thoughts
As noted above, this offer is targeted. My account was not targeted, so I see lesser cash back payouts (like 10% at Lenovo). My wife’s account is targeted for 15% at Lenovo, Groupon, Gamestop, Blue Nile (could be a nice haul on an engagement ring), and many more popular retailers. As a point of comparison, my account, which was not targeted for this promotion, only shows 10% back at Lenovo, 12% back at Groupon, etc — making for a difference of 3-5% at most stores.
However, I was particularly surprised to see my wife’s account targeted 25% / 25x at Sixt Rental Car. My account only has 12% back at Sixt, so this is a large increase.
That could be a fantastic return. I rented from Sixt in Europe a couple of months ago and I would have loved to have earned 25% back on that (expensive) one-way rental.
Some increased rates are publicly available and of wide interest – like 10% back at Dell. That could make today a good day to use any of the current Dell Amex Offers or the semi-annual Business Platinum card benefit.
As always, compare rates at CashBackMonitor to make sure you’re getting the best payout possible.
Terms for (my) amex lenovo have you going to a specific website:
“Offer valid online via US website only at Lenovo.com/PROAmex.”
Anyone have experience with this working clicking through another portal? ~30% would be nice.
There are very few Amex offers where that is enforced – since it’s just taking you to the Lenovo website and you’re paying Lenovo, I don’t think Amex would have any way to know that you clicked through a portal or through their link. They have long had the same wording on the Dell Amex offers and you’ve always been able to click through a portal and stack portal rewards. I haven’t actually purchased through Lenovo, but there have been enough past Lenovo Amex offers that if it didn’t stack, I think we’d have had those data points.
I had a $15 off $50 at Chewy on my Bonvoy Business that didn’t track. Assuming it’s because I didn’t use “/amex”.
