This week on the Frequent Miler blog…

Million Mile Madness Recap – and the winner is…

Drumroll, please — after the dust settled and the scores were tabulated, there could be only one Million Mile Madness champion. As it so happens, the right competitor won the prize this time around — but you can rest assured that we’ll all be back with a vengeance for the next challenge, whenever and wherever it may be.

Everything that was in Nick’s bag for Million Mile Madness

Even I was a little surprised that I fit everything I needed for two weeks into a medium-size backpack. By contrast, I’m typing this post while driving to New York City for the weekend and I have not only my backpack but also a garment bag…and I’m just in town for two nights. However, for Million Mile Madness, I had to pare down to just the basics. A lot of people asked for links to various items I shared, so this post links to everything I brought with me. I’m not suggesting that this is the best stuff or that you should have the same stuff, rather this is just a list that one frequent traveler has found indispensable when packing for a complicated trip in a very simple amount of space.

10 frequent flyer-ish things we're thankful for

As we stop and give thanks this week for the many ways we are fortunate, Greg and I had to take an episode to review 10 things that we’re thankful to have as parts of the games we play. Miles and points and the frequent flyer world make incredible things possible and on this week’s Frequent Miler on the Air, we review some that we’re most thankful to still count among our blessings.

Etihad First Apartment Re-Review: Absolutely Awesome

Greg’s recent experience in Etihad First Class was without a doubt a top-notch flight experience. After my own experience on the same route in the opposite direction barely a week later, I can confidently recommend taking this trip in Greg’s direction if given the choice. No matter which way you fly it, there aren’t many seats in the world that compete with this one. The Armani pajamas will be silky-smooth and Etihad will surely have great wine & spirits at the ready for your enjoyment. One could surely debate whether Etihad or Singapore or Emirates or maybe even Air France has the best first class, but 95%+ of the world’s airlines simply don’t offer anything that can compete.

How to find and book Etihad First Class Apartments

Again, whether daytime or overnight flight, there’s no doubt that this is an incredible way to get from Point A to Point B. In this post, Greg shows how to find apartments first class and how far in advance you can look and book.

Great ways to save money or miles on flights

There are a multitude of ways to save either money or miles when booking flights by using various tools and techniques. In this post, Greg provides an overview of many tools you should have in your belt to make sure that you aren’t paying more than necessary to get from here to there.

Two solid Ibis Styles stays, but limited love for Accor Live Limitless

During our recent challenge, I spent two nights at Accor Live Limitless properties — both Ibis Styles hotels near international airports (one in Seoul and the other in Kuala Lumpur). I liked both hotels pretty well for the purpose (an airport overnight) and on a live stream I mentioned that I might even choose a property like one of these over competitors. However, Accor has some work to do on their program because I didn’t (and wouldn’t) book either through Accor when I can instead stack with a shopping portal and book through an OTA like Priceline.

Guide to Airline Companion Tickets for 2024

A number of major airlines offer different types of companion tickets, many of which can be earned through spend on co-branded credit cards. In this post, Greg highlights the key things to know about each of them. While most of these will always have niche appeal, there’s no doubt that they could be huge for the right person and situation.

That’s it for this week at Frequent Miler. Keep an eye on this week’s last chance deals to be sure you use the latest ones before they’re gone.
