There’s a Dosh kibosh: Card-linked app is shutting down, withdraw cash ASAP

5

In news that isn’t entirely surprising, the card-linked app Dosh has announced that it’s going to be closing down next month.

Dosh closing down RIP dead

An email Dosh sent to users over the course of the last few days stated the following:

The Dosh Adventure is Coming to an End

Dear Doshers,

We hope your holiday season was filled with joy, festive memories, and of course, a lot of savvy shopping with cash back offers! As we step into 2025, we wanted to share an update with you.

After much thought and consideration, we have made the decision to sunset the Dosh app. As we prepare to wind down, we wanted to thank our millions of users who have supported us throughout the years. It’s been an exciting adventure, and we hope you were able to earn some cash back along the way.

Before the app is discontinued, here’s what you need to know:

Timing: The Dosh app will officially sunset on February 28, 2025 with the last day to make a qualifying transaction on January 16, 2025.

Withdrawal Reminder: We’ve lowered the withdrawal limit to $0.01, allowing you to retrieve any remaining balance from your Dosh account until February 23 2025. Please note that any remaining cash back balances after this date will be forfeited.

Updated Terms: We have updated our Terms of Service to reflect the app closure, which can be viewed here.

Although Dosh is coming to a close, your cash back journey doesn’t have to end here! You can still access the cash back offers you know and love through your bank’s rewards program.

Thank you again for your continued support and engagement with Dosh, and we wish you all the best on your personal financial journeys!

Best,

The Dosh Team

The Dosh app was once a great little earner. Its best opportunity was the cashback available when paying with a linked card at Office Depot/OfficeMax. You could earn something like $10 cashback per day from Dosh which was on top of the already profitable Visa and Mastercard gift card deals that Office Depot would sometimes run, as well as the rewards you could earn by paying with a credit card that offers bonus points on spend at office supply stores. Dosh (or perhaps Office Depot/OfficeMax) caught on to that in the end, so Dosh clawed back some earnings and removed the ability to earn from Office Depot for users they identified as buying gift cards.

That was disappointing, but there were other card-linked offers available in the app for several years that could be stacked with things like Amex Offers, bonus categories on credit cards, etc.

For the last couple of years though, Dosh has been largely useless. I’ve tended to check for new offers a couple of times per week and there’s simply been nothing of interest. I imagine that’s the same for most other Dosh users, so it’s not surprising that they’ve decided to shut down the consumer-facing app.

Although the app will be officially closing on February 28, 2025, you only have until February 23 to withdraw any cashback you might have. It’s best not to procrastinate with that though as there’s a non-zero chance that the app gets shut down sooner than that. I’d therefore recommend that you withdraw your cash immediately if you still have any earnings sitting there.

I’d like to give credit to Dosh for how they’re dealing with this situation though. Not only are they giving users more than a month’s notice, but they’ve reduced the minimum cashout amount to only $0.01. Many apps in a similar position would either shut down overnight, not reduce the minimum withdrawal amount or make it pretty much impossible to redeem your earned points/cashback  (I’m looking at you Drop.)

Thanks Stephen for the reminder. I was really late to the Dosh game and only took advantage of double-dipping Dosh and Shake Shack Chase Offers the past year or so. Too bad for years I mixed up Dosh and Drop, the latter I didn’t want to deal with!

Surprisingly, I had $9.98 in my account. I earned some $5 at some random restaurant last year, and I did manage to get a few OD/OM purchases to track even in 2024. Overall, earned about $172 over the life of the program. I think I was late to it.

RIP it was great while it lasted – esp with 5X CIC and Chase OD/OM offers stacked. But my last OD Dosh deal was December 2021.

My last earnings which was actually surprising was a local Mexican restaurant that we were visiting like 2X-3x a week for take out during Summer of 2023 June-Sept. But oddly enough I was also double dipping with Rakuten somehow.

But they had a remodel and complete store staff turn- over while we were on a 6 week trip last spring. The food quality and taste just wasn’t the same.

Annoying – I had $5 in my Dosh account but was assessed a $4.99 “inactivity” fee in 12/2024 so now I only have $0.01 in my account :-/

Same. To be petty I withdrew my $0.01 to paypal.
