(EXPIRED) United/American/Alaska – New portal bonuses (500-1000 miles)

Alaska Airlines, American Airlines and United Airlines shopping portals all launched new promotions this week which offer between 500-1000 bonus miles when spending from $100-$300.

Terms and Conditions

American

• During the “Summer Bonus” offer, which runs from 6/13/2022 through 6/17/2022 at 11:59:59 pm ET (the “Bonus Period”), Member will earn a one-time bonus of 500 AAdvantage miles on qualifying purchases, in addition to the base AAdvantage miles earned from shopping online through the AAdvantage eShopping mall.
• This one-time bonus award will be determined based on Member’s cumulative qualifying purchases made during the Bonus Period: 500 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of $200 or more.
• “Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus miles. Please see the AAdvantage eShopping mall site for details on product eligibility and other restrictions.
• Please allow up to 10 weeks after the Bonus Period for bonus miles to post to your AAdvantage eShopping account.

United

• During the “Summer Bonus” offer, which runs from 6/13/2022 through 6/24/2022 at 11:59:59 pm ET (the “Bonus Period”), Member will earn a one-time bonus of up to 1,000 MileagePlus bonus award miles on qualifying purchases made through the MileagePlus Shopping mall or from purchases made through MileagePlus Shopping in-store offers.
• This one-time bonus award will be based on Member’s cumulative qualifying purchases made during the Bonus Period using one of the following tiers: Tier 1 bonus: 500 miles for qualifying purchases of at least $100; or Tier 2 bonus: 1,000 miles for qualifying purchases of $300 or more.
• “Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus miles. Please see the MileagePlus Shopping mall site for details on product eligibility and other restrictions.
• Please allow up to 10 weeks after the Bonus Period for bonus award miles to post to your MileagePlus Shopping account.
• The Tier 2 bonus provides the maximum number of miles that will be awarded.

Alaska

• During the “Summer Bonus” offer, which runs from 6/13/2022 through 6/22/2022 at 11:59:59 pm ET (the “Bonus Period”), Member will receive a one-time bonus of 500 Mileage Plan bonus miles on qualifying purchases made through the Mileage Plan Shopping mall or from purchases made through Mileage Plan Shopping in-store offers.
• This one-time bonus award will be determined based on Member’s cumulative qualifying purchases made during the Bonus Period: Earn 500 miles for qualifying purchases of at least $200 or more.
• “Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus miles.

Quick Thoughts

The United promotion get less generous the more you spend, offering 5x on $100 spend, but only 3.33x on $300 spend. American did this the last time around and it’s a strange format to me.

As per usual, the American shopping portal promotion gives you the shortest time period to hit the spending threshold, with United and Alaska allowing more time. Be aware that you don’t earn a corresponding number of American Loyalty Points for the bonus miles earned through this kind of promotion (although you will earn miles on the base spends).

While gift card purchases are always listed as being excluded from these bonuses,the bonus miles can usually be triggered by buying gift cards from either Raise or Giftcards.com, as those purchases get tracked by the portal. Both the Alaska Airlines and United portals have a card-linked feature where in-store purchases also count towards the spend for this offer.

These portal offers are always a nice bonus, but they aren’t world-beating. Be sure to compare portal rates on Cashback Monitor before committing to either of these.
