Miles to Memories reports on a new possibly targeted offer for the Blue Business Plus card that’s good for up to 40,000 Membership Rewards points. While we’ve also seen a targeted 50K offer, this one requires much less spend and could be more attractive for some.

The Offer

  • A new targeted offer for the Blue Business Plus is out that’s good for 30,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $5,000 in the first 3 months plus 10K points after you add an employee card and spend $1,000 in the first 3 months
  • This link brings up the targeted offer, but you’ll need to log in to apply. If it says that the offer is no longer available, you aren’t targeted.

Quick Thoughts

It is interesting that this offer notes that you must apply by 12/31/21, indicating that this one will likely hang around for a while. The offer is targeted (you must log in to apply and it says the offer is no longer available if you are not targeted). I don’t see any lifetime language, but always change in case something changes when you’ve logged in.

The offer itself is excellent. The Blue Business Plus is a great everywhere-else card since it earns 2 points per dollar spent on up to $50K in eligible purchases each year (then 1x). The card ordinarily has no welcome bonus unless you apply via referral. The referral offer has typically been 10,000 points after $3K in purchases in the first 3 months (which is the best public offer). If you’re playing in 2-player mode, the referral offer could be just as good as this 40K offer assuming you value points in both accounts equally. That assumes you have a card from which to generate a referral link that gives you 30,000 or 35,000 points for referring a new cardholder (that is targeted — some people have an offer like that and some don’t). If you do have a 30K or 35K offer and you can refer Player 2 to get 10K points after $5K spend, you’ll come out with the same total number of points or a little bit better. If you don’t have that offer or don’t have a Player 2 or value the points in the account of the Blue Business Plus cardholder, you may prefer this new offer.

The structure for this new offer is nice because it could be triggered with $5K total spend (provided $1K in spent on the employee card). Recently there has also been an offer of 50K points after $15K in purchases in the first year. That does provide an extra 10K points for an additional $10K in spend (and does not require an employee card). Given that this card earns 2x everywhere on up to $50K in purchases per calendar year (then 1x), that’s still like getting 3x on that extra $10K in spend, which is an excellent return for otherwise unbonused purchases. However, if you prefer to do that spend toward other bonuses, this 40K offer could be a better fit.

Nick, where exactly would one find offers like the “Our Best Offer For You” offer on the Amex website? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Vince

Many of these offers expire 12/31…did not get the 40K or the 50K offer…any data points with AMEX on not being targeted now (“sorry, this offer has expired”), but later on that changes at some point? Should I keep checking on this periodically until 12/31? Or am I done… Thanks

Nate

Anything stopping me from using P2 as my “employee” for the extra 10k?

Gene

Wishing this was an “expand your relationship” offer!
