Aeroplan is out with what is a great offer that is worth your full attention: join Aeroplan and earn at least 1 mile by September 30th (which could be through the shopping portal or by transferring from Membership Rewards or Capital One in addition to miles earned by flying) and get 2500 bonus miles. The reason this is worth your attention is that Air Canada announced yesterday that they will be introducing family mileage pooling, meaning that you will eventually be able to pool miles with up to 8 family members — making this bonus potentially quite valuable if you have any family members who do not yet have Aeroplan accounts.
The Deal
- Join Aeroplan and earn your first mile by September 30, 2020 and get 2,500 bonus miles
- Direct link to this promotion
Key Terms
- To qualify for the 2,500 bonus miles, you must become an Aeroplan member by completing and submitting the online enrollment form and make a first accumulation transaction with an eligible Aeroplan partner by September 30, 2020.
- Membership is free.
- Offer represents a one-time bonus only.
- Please allow 6-8 weeks after your first transaction for the miles to be credited to your account.
- Offer is subject to change at Aeroplan’s sole discretion without notice; other conditions and restrictions may apply.
- For questions related to this offer, please reference the following promotion code when contacting Aeroplan:9PN2.
Quick Thoughts
Again, the angle that makes this particularly appealing is mileage pooling. I imagine that many readers already have an Aeroplan account (if you don’t, it is definitely worth signing up now with this offer for free miles), but the fact that you will eventually be able to pool miles within a family means that now is a good time to encourage your loved ones to join and earn a mile through the shopping portal if they don’t have Membership Rewards or Capital One points to transfer. You can bet that everyone in my family will be joining Aeroplan. Keep in mind though that this creates a shared balance that can be used by anyone in the family.
Also remember that Air Canada said that the family pooling feature would be reconsidered if abused. I definitely don’t recommend creating fictitious accounts. This is a great feature to have, so don’t get carried away with it.
For those who have large families, this could be a terrific opportunity. A family of 5 could put together enough miles for a one-way partner award ticket on United within the continental US given that itineraries of 1,501 to 2,750 miles cost 12,500 miles on partner airlines within North America. There are obviously other great uses of Aeroplan miles as well, so any way you slice it this is a nice deal.
Pretty disappointed in this. I followed the sign-up link to the Air Canada Aeroplan website on 8/29/20, thought I had the offer code (9PN2) entered, registered for a new account, subsequently transferred 3,000 Marriott Bonvoy points into 1,000 Aeroplan miles on 9/8/20…then sat back and waited for my 2,500 bonus miles to post. But after many months, they never came. So I spoke with Aeroplan Customer Service who informed me that the promo registration never occurred and that I am not eligible for the 2,500 miles. Unfortunately, a big waste of time and energy. 🙁
I signed up multiple members of my family (all real people) as part of this promotion. I was initially able to log in to all accounts and made purchases via the estore. However, for the past 3 weeks, I have been unable to log into any of the accounts and I receive the following error on sign in: “The server has encountered an internal problem and cannot complete your request. Please try again later.”
Is anyone else having this issue? I’m not sure if this is a tech support issue or if all of the accounts have been locked/deleted for some reason.
Similar situation. My valid new accounts that I signed up for were all deleted by Aeroplan.
[…] Very nice: 2500 miles for joining Aeroplan & earning a mile (Expires 9/30/20) […]
Do existing aeroplan members get this bonus?
I am trying Uber Eats via eStore, Canadian Red Cross $5 donation (note than the referral bonus once you donated is 250 miles for people who donate $50, that is not in the terms you see until you’ve donated) and I may try the surverys, too. If time gets tight will push points from Amex.
Is there any way to check that aeroplan is tracking your purchase? I just bought something on overstock.com, but it doesn’t seem like the aeroplan estore shows that it is tracking your activity like they do on other shopping portals. And then they also say that it might take 6-8 weeks from the shipping date for the miles to appear. Is there any way to check that your purchase is being tracked other than having to wait for up to two months?
I forgot to use the direct link to the promo. will I not be eligible to receive the 2500 bonus miles/points?
It seems that may be the case. On one I did from the Aeroplan main page the form didn’t show the offer and I noticed too late. I registered another account right away for the same person, had to change the address after same address said was a duplicate account. I am hoping this new one will work.
Canadian Aeroplan members can earn 100-1000 Aeroplan Miles for free by signing up for text notifications. I think it’s worrh trying for American memebrs as sometimes these things don’t always go according to the terms and conditions. Important! – be sure to wait at least 24 hours after signing up for Aeroplan ( and include your phone number )before taking advantage of this offer link. It won’t credit the miles otherwise.

This must only work in Canada. I just texted “join” to 27767 and got a response back with a 20% off coupon for pinkcoconutboutique.com.
Yes, it says that in the fine print if you scroll to the bottom of that landing page:
Offer is only available for Canadian members who are 18 years and older.
And after I tried at failed at a number of free Canadian phone services I was directed to the fine print that says the offer expired last year.
Another option is to buy a digital download from Amazon or iTunes. On Amazon, for example, go to books… deals… kindle. There are plenty of 99 cent (Canadian) books.
Have you verified this will work? Kindle eBooks are excluded via the terms on Amazon.ca. Bolding is mine:
Earn 1 Aeroplan Miles for every $1 you spend on select categories! Aeroplan miles will be earned for qualifying activity across the following categories when shopping on Amazon.ca via the Aeroplan eStore: Apparel, Camera & Photo, Cloud Cam & Blink, Echo Devices, Eero Devices, Fashion Private Brands, Fire TV Devices, Furniture, Home, Industrial & Scientific, Kindle Devices, Lawn & Garden, Luggage, Outdoors, Pet Products, Ring Devices and Toys & Games. The included categories for Aeroplan mile earn may change from time to time.
Oops. My bad. OK… how about iTunes 99 cent songs? Do those still exist?
One thing I saw looking in the Aeroplan Estore is an Apple Music offer: Sign up for a free 3-month Apple Music trial and earn 100 Aeroplan Miles for an Individual plan. It wasn’t clear to me if you get the points for the trial or signing up after the trial.
The cheapest option in the shopping portal might be AliExpress. You can find things for $1 with free shipping so you can consider your cost of 20,000 miles to be $8 bucks.
I could not find Aliexpress on ONLINE RETAILERS portal. Please advise!

I knew there was a good reason to have those 4 kids. So far everyone only has BA accounts (combined in a family account) to credit from AA, now we can add Aeroplan to the mix. A mostly-free 15K miles does not hurt my feelings …
What is the best way to earn one mile quickly and easily?
The best way depends on your goal:
Fastest/easiest: Transfer the minimum 1,000 points from Amex / Capital One or buy miles from Air Canada (I think buying would work, I know transferring works).
Cheapest: Shopping portal. Find something really cheap. I see some ugly socks and headbands and stuff from Nike, Reebok, etc that cost under $10 I guess. I don’t know if it would work, but under the Apple music offer it says:
I see Uber Eats in the portal.
The eStore terms say: “Aeroplan Miles will be credited within six (6) to eight (8) weeks of the shipping date. Aeroplan is not responsible for any delay in the crediting of Aeroplan Miles to your Aeroplan account”
The miles needs to post by Sept 30, so this approach may not work if the portal miles do not post in time.
[…] if you have a family member who doesn’t yet have an Aeroplan account, you could get them to sign up under the current 2500-mile promo for new members and join your family pool (pooling is coming later this year) and maybe they’ll let you use […]
One of the shopping portal categories is select items at “Amazon.ca”. I haven’t tried yet because I need to sign up, but I wonder if this will work assuming it automatically redirects to amazon.com in the U.S.?
It’s been a few years since I last did it, but I have ordered from amazon.ca in the past for delivery to the US. No idea what that situation is like given the pandemic.
