Thrifty Traveler Premium just reported an amazing airfare: $420 round trip for nonstop service from Los Angeles to Auckland, New Zealand on American Airlines during peak New Zealand summer dates in February and March. I haven’t been able to widely replicate the fare, but it is available on some dates and that is an awesome deal for travel to New Zealand. It’s a long flight in economy class, but at this price it’s hard to beat.
The Deal
- Round trip nonstop flights from Los Angeles to Auckland, New Zealand from $420 round trip in February and March (summertime in NZ)
- Direct link to search with Google Flights
- Direct link to example dates pricing at $420 on Momondo
Quick Thoughts
This won’t last and indeed may already be dying. I’m seeing $509 through Google Flights, which is still a terrific price for flights to New Zealand. I assume that price is also available via the Chase travel portal, which would mean it should cost a little over 33,000 Ultimate Rewards points round trip for those with the Chase Sapphire Reserve. Your net cost is a little lower yet if you have the Business Platinum card and have American Airlines as your chosen airline.
Search for cheap dates on Google Flights and then pop the dates into Momondo to see if you can find them for $420. If the link above to Momondo is no longer showing $420, try other dates.
Again, this won’t last. Look now, book now if you’re interested in New Zealand.

$1100 now
Not sure where you’re seeing that. I just clicked both links in the post and it still shows $509 when going through Google Flights or $420 through Momondo.
…because I have 2 passengers selected. Doh! LoL 🙂
That makes more sense 🙂
