Wyndham Rewards has announced that it will be selling something called the “Ultimate Hotel Pass” in early July. This pass will allow for up to 30 nights at hotels and resort within Wyndham’s portfolio through the end of September…all for only $499+tax. If you were able to use all 30 nights, you’d end up getting them for an average cost of around $17 each…a pretty spectacular price.

There are a couple of catches though.

First, Wyndham is only making 25 of these passes available to members in the US, so your chances of getting struck by lightning are probably better than your chances of actually being able to purchase one.

The second? You’d have to spend 30 nights at Wyndham properties in a little under three months.

The Deal

  • Register for a chance to buy one of 25 Wyndham Rewards Ultimate Hotel Passes for $499 + tax. The pass includes:
    • 30 nights of hotel stays redeemable over the next three months at thousands of properties across Wyndham’s portfolio
    • A “Pass Concierge” to assist with reservations, modifications, and cancellations
    • Use of pass nights to book an extra room for accompanying guests.
    • Limited blackout dates with taxes and resort fees included at most hotels and resorts.
  • For a chance to purchase a pass, you must pre-register by July 4, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
  • On July 8th, 2024, 25 potential pass holders who pre-registered will be randomly selected and notified of their opportunity to purchase a pass. They’ll have 48-hours to claim their pass or a new name will be pulled.

Quick Thoughts

First of all, let’s get the nomenclature cleared up. This isn’t a “sale.” It’s essentially a sweepstakes or lottery, with the odds of being able to buy a pass somewhat akin to the odds of winning Powerball. That said, Wyndham will be selling 25 of these things, so if it sounds like something you could use, there’s no harm in registering.

The pass is only valid for Wyndham Rewards members registered in the US and it’s only valid for stays through September 30th. While the passholder has to actually stay in the rooms, they can also book a second room at the same property they’re staying at, something that could make it much more useful for a family. It’s worth noting that you can’t spend more than 10 nights at any individual hotel or resort.

Wyndham properties won’t be leading any Conde Nast Traveler “Best of” lists anytime soon…but, at $17/night, it’s hard to complain.

There are actually plenty of passable Wyndhams out there. Nick and I took the whole team to the Wyndham Golden Suites in Foz do Iguacu during last year’s Party of Five Challenge. I never did figure out what made the suites “golden,” but Carrie was impressed by the “dark, creepy hallways where the lights would flicker for a solid 4 or 5 seconds after the elevator doors opened.” Sounds like a bargain for seventeen bucks.

I get a blank page when I click on that registration link. Guessing you can’t access from offshore or via a VPN

It’s fun to dunk on Wyndham properties – the quality of many Days Inn and Travelodge properties totally deserve it – but all joking aside this would be a great deal for anyone who does win the drawing. I’m certainly throwing my hat and P2’s in the ring.

Using this pass for an AI stay at the Wyndham Alltra Cancun immediately came to mind. The contest page already highlights it but it seems like a good to great property – along the better northern stretch of beach in the Cancun hotel zone, reasonable walk to other resorts and the La Isla mall for dining options, solid on property included dining and drinks. Little water park on-site along with a kids club for a decent family option though you’d have to pay for the additional guests. It’s not a posh property by any stretch, lots of reviews note somewhat dated rooms without many renovations since it was the Panama Jack resort and leaks in heavy rains, but it also has a lot of compliments on attentive service from staff. Running anywhere from $240 – $420 a night during the period this pass would be good for, I’d take a 3 – 5 night stay for only $500 + tax.

My parents are road tripping this summer and AmericInn properties are often your nicest option in much of the upper-Midwest for towns that only have Choice and Wyndham properties available. Summer rates out in the woods and along the great lakes in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and the Michigan UP can run $200 – $300/night despite the remote locations as tourists come in for the scenery and fishing or boating. If they managed to snag this it would be a ton of value and could cover half their stays as they drive around for a couple months.

The other option that comes to mind if you can availability is staying at the WorldMark timeshare properties with the 1-bedroom option. Timeshares are usually never that luxurious and the properties I’ve looked at seem comparable to a typical Hilton or Marriott Vacation Club. Summer would make a lovely time for a stay in their mountain locations in Northern Arizona, California, Colorado, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Lake Tahoe, Whistler & Vancouver, or Canmore outside of Calgary. It seems like availability to non-timeshare guests is limited though so I’m not sure how much luck you’d find on somewhat last minute bookings.

Could you stay in the same hotel twice?

Andrew

Up to 10 nights at any one property per the terms – doesn’t state any restrictions on splitting those up between multiple stays.

Quinn

Can you spend the free nights abroad or only stateside?

There’s a Wyndham in PR that’s pretty doable for a family!

So if one were to “win” this, what are the best/fanciest options that would qualify? Nobu Hotel in Las Vegas comes to mind. Since cottages and Vacasa are out, what other places would be good picks?

Also, I’m puzzled by the “dates/rates” terminology for blackouts (or lack thereof). I get the concept of date blackouts, but what would constitute a rate blackout? Rates higher than a certain dollar figure? (FAQ states that you can only book standard rooms and 1-bedroom condos).

Stayed at Nobu last year. Regular Caesars rooms are much nicer.
