Shopping portal Retailmenot is celebrating its Cash Back Day today (11/7/19) with increased portal rates at many stores. For travelers, two of particular interest may be IHG (10% back) and Hilton (8% back with no stated exclusion for elite members), each with a cap of $50 in earned cash back.
The Deal
- Earn increased cash back on IHG and Hilton bookings today via shopping portal Retailmenot
Key Details
- Rewards earnings up to $50.00.
- Cash back is based on the room rate and does not apply to any taxes, service fees, VAT or other hotel facility costs (including restaurant and spa).
-
Purchases of gift cards are excluded.
Quick Thoughts
Keep in mind the relatively low cap on rewards here ($50 in earned cash back with either chain), but this could be a decent payout with either IHG or Hilton.
The nice thing about booking through a portal like Retailmenot is that you’re taken directly to the hotel website to complete your booking, so your stay should qualify for all the usual benefits (loyalty points, elite benefits, elite credit, etc).
Surprisingly, I do not see any exclusions for Hilton elites. Most portals pay out different rates on Hilton bookings depending on your status, with Diamond members often ineligible for portal rewards and Gold members often receiving a decreased rate. I don’t see any indication of your elite status affecting cash back through Retailmenot.
Unfortunately, there is no way to apply this to a previous booking; you would need to cancel your existing booking and re-book by first clicking through Retailmenot today (though you’ll of course want to check to make sure rates haven’t increased). Cash back on hotel stays usually posts a few weeks after a stay is completed, though I haven’t booked a stay through the Retailmenot portal before.
If you have paid bookings to make, this is a solid return on up to a few hundred bucks in spend.
no 8% showing when I go to retailmenot for Hilton
