Quick Thoughts
This is a nice discount on gift cards. Sometimes, these promotions are regional, so YMMV — let us know in the comments whether or not you have found this in your area. Per comments at Doctor of Credit, it seems that you will need to enter a Just4U number in order to get this discount, though it is not an offer you need to sync with your account. The terms state that the discount is valid once per transaction, but there appears to be no hard limit to the number of transactions you can do (this of course vary by store). You will want to use a card that maximizes return on spend at supermarkets / grocery stores. For more on the best cards for each category, see our Best card for Grocery, Gas, Drugstores, Travel, Dining, and more. Full terms of this offer are below.

Works great on the $500 MCGC’s where you will pay 495.95. But you also get 5% cb if you use Amex obc, or other card with cb at supermarkets. That’s ~$25 + 4.05 per transaction. I’ve been going to teh csr and asking for individual receipts. When I look surprised at paying for teh initial 3, I say I’ll get some more and return to teh same csr with 3 more. Thats $3000 per store visit, or 6* 29 = $150 per store visit. Times 2+ visits minimum per day!!! A real money earner!! Don’t forgetr to give ur club # for each purchase to trigger the $10, but of course no fuel points.
I thought it’s only valide for fixed value cards like $50 or $100 but not variable cards like $50 to $500 that you chose at checkout.
Variable works as well. I bought a few.
No luck in the SF Bay area, only gap card and hotels.com card shows up in my Just4U
All Mastercard gift over $50 will trigger the $10 off. The digital coupon is already stored in your account. You dont have to add it or anything. Albertsons will take $10 off automacally, buy at Vons you will need to enter your phone number.
Hello TheMonkeyTech,
This offer doesn’t require you to login Just 4 U to add onto your list. Just go to cashier directly to buy an MCGC for example, after swiping Safeway Club Card or press your phone number, the $10 off is automatically processed at check out. I just got it today. Offer ends tonight. Don’t miss it.
Deal is awesome. Doesn’t even need to register at Just 4 U. Automatically applied to my variable MCGC $500 purchase. So convenient!
btw, is amazon included? also any dp in bay area sfw? Thanks
No, Amazon isn’t included — only the brands included in the post:
“Included brands are Bath & Body Works, BedandBreakfast.com, The Children’s Place, Fandango, IHOP, JCPenney, and Mastercard”
As or a DP, I don’t have one — but this appears in the circular, which you should be able to check online for your local store.
Is it possible to use safeway gift cards to buy other gift cards and mastercards ?
yes, the system allows to do that but most of the cashiers will not let you do it,
Whats the rule of thumb on depositing money order at your bank? Under $10k with only one bank? Any thoughts?
The $500 Mastercard variable works too.
Many banks will close your accounts for depositing too many money orders (and “too many” can be anywhere from one or two to dozens — it really varies by banks). You’re better off opening a bank account somewhere that you don’t care about if you’re planning to be depositing money orders.
Thanks for the comments. Im thinking under 5k per month is safe, but who knows. Ive done it for 2 months now.
$10 savings but a $7 activation fee?
That depends on which denomination you buy. The picture is a $200 Mastercard gift card, though you may only find a $100 card in-store.
Still, $3 ahead on $100 or $200 in ten seconds beats the heck out of my savings account’s APR :-). But in seriousness, the value is in earning rewards. And/or get yourself a 20% savings on the other GCs (which would not have an activation fee).
