Norwegian Air is running a very good fare sale from Newburgh, NY (SWF) or Providence, RI to Dublin, Ireland from $103 one-way from January to April on select dates with other dates on sale through June. These are bare bones fares that do not include checked bags or seat selection, but they are an awfully cheap way to get to Europe. Return flights from Europe start at $138 to Providence or $150 to Newburgh — or pair this with an award flight one way or the other to save some points.

Quick Thoughts

While there are certainly no frills included, the good news is that these flights aren’t much longer than a domestic transcontinental. If you’d ordinarily consider basic economy from coast to coast, this won’t be all that much different.

A checked bag will cost you $50 one way or for $70, add a checked bag and seat selection with LowFare+. That will certainly take away some of the value here, but it may be worth it if you’re like to fly out of Newburgh or Providence. A carry-on bag is included with the cheapest fares, so if you can pack light it is a cheap getaway.

This is of course low season for visiting Europe. I visited Ireland during January once and enjoyed the general lack of crowds/tourists both on the roads at at the major attractions. On the flip side, many B&B’s and Inns were closed, so it made it harder to fly by the seat of one’s pants in terms of accommodation.

I have only personally flown Norwegian within Europe, but I lived to tell the tale. I also have family members who have flown the Newburgh to Dublin route and reported it to be a solid fine, matching expectations.

I’ve only flown Norwegian within Europe, but it was fine.

Overall, if you’re looking for a cheap getaway to Dublin, this looks like a good opportunity.
