Update 12/9/19: This deal is back again and makes for a great payout on Apple products.
There are increased shopping portal payouts today for Apple, including 10x American Airlines AAdvantage miles, 8x Alaska Mileage Plan miles or 8x United Mileage Plus miles. Those are terrific returns for Apple products.
The Deal
- Earn increased portal rewards today on Apple purchases as follows:
Key Details
- Products not eligible for rewards are 16-inch MacBook Pro, AirPods Pro, gift cards, gift wrap, Bose products, Apple Developer Programs and shipping.
- Orders purchased on the Government or Military and Veteran’s Stores are not eligible for additional rewards.
- Apple sells and ships products to end user customers only; you may not purchase for resale.
- Eligible only to a customer for up to five (5) units per eligible product, except iPhone, in which case only two (2) units within a thirty-day (30-day) period are eligible.
- Not eligible on purchases made with coupon or discount codes that are not found on [the shopping portal website].
- Not eligible on gift cards, gift certificates or any other similar cash equivalents.
- Purchases made with a gift card may be ineligible.
Quick Thoughts
Any time you can earn a substantial return on Apple products it can make for a great deal for Apple fans. A look at the Cashbackmonitor.com 15-month history shows that mileage payouts have only reached double digits three other times in the past 15 months. I’m not personally in the Apple ecosystem, but those who are get rare opportunities to score significant discounts or earn significant rewards on purchases. If you’ve had an Apple purchase on the horizon, these payouts could make for a really nice return.
Keep in mind the limits intended to curb resellers (no more than 5 units per product or 2 iPhones within a 30-day period). It’s also interesting that they note that purchases made with a gift card may be inelligible. I’m not sure how the determination is made there. Also check the key details for exclusions (most notably Bose products).
Overall, this looks like a nice deal for Apple fans.
Does this work on Education prices?
Make sure you compare prices. With the portals you have to buy through Apple at their prices. Often authorized resellers provide discounts that Apple don’t. So maybe 20,000 AA points on a $2K computer is better than $200 discount on the price but if it is 20,000 AA points vs. $400 off, you may want to discount.
Some products aren’t discounted much but some laptops and desktops can have nice discounts. A place such as https://deals.appleinsider.com/ shows a number of the discounts.
I’m looking at the historical graph and wondering if in the past this deal has lasted 1 day or 2. Any idea?
