If you have an upcoming stay at a Choice Privileges property and Greg’s post this morning didn’t convince you that you should be earning some Choice points (See: On my mind (Choice Privileges edition), you can alternatively earn “5x Aeroplan miles“, which means 1,250 Aeroplan miles per qualifying stay for stays from 11/1/19 to 12/15/19. That won’t be a good return for expensive/long stays, but if you have a cheap quick stay coming up and a valuable use for the miles, it could make sense to earn with Aeroplan.
The Deal
- Earn 1,250 Aeroplan miles per qualifying stay with Choice Privileges through 12/15/19
- Direct link to this promotion (our affiliate link)

Hotel guest name must match the Aeroplan member’s name.

Quick Thoughts
Whether or not this is a deal to you is a matter of personal preference and the cost of your stay. You ordinarily earn 10 points per dollar if you’re earning with Choice Privileges. If you have a really cheap stay (sub-$100), the Aeroplan miles are probably more valuable. If I were paying more than that, I’d usually go with the Choice points just because I’d rather buy less of them the next time I need them and I can generate Aeroplan miles easily enough. On the other hand, if I was very close to an award with Aeroplan, I suppose I’d be happy to pick up the miles to bridge the gap on a cheap Choice stay rather than transferring from Amex Membership Rewards or Capital One “miles”. Either way, it’s good to know you have this option — just be sure to double check that your Aeroplan number is attached to the reservation with the agent at the hotel front desk and note the excluded countries (though I’d suspect that most readers are more likely to focus burning Choice points in those countries rather than earning).
Keep in mind the following from the Choice Privileges terms and conditions:
You do not earn Choice Privileges points for rooms booked at rates below $40 per night, complimentary rooms, rooms paid for as part of a convention or meeting, or rooms booked through a travel agent or third party online retailer as part of pre-paid wholesale rates, wholesale packages or senior tours.
Rooms booked through third party online retailers such as Expedia.com, Orbitz.com, Travelocity.com, Booking.com, Priceline.com, etc., are not eligible for points or Elite night credit.
In other words, if your room is really cheap, you aren’t going to qualify for any points (and the same is of course true with third-party bookings like Expedia and the sort).
I’ve added this to our current hotel promotions resource page.
Curious about generating Aeroplan miles easily enough. I have some close to expiry and haven’t seen easy ways to keep them alive.
They’re easy to keep alive — just make a transfer from Amex, Capital One, or Marriott.
In terms of generating them easily enough, earning 4x at US Supermarkets (on up to $25K/yr) via the Amex Gold is pretty easy. Lots of other ways between Amex and C1 to pile up some miles. Perhaps see this post:
