Reader Fuzzy points out that shopping portal Rakuten is offering 12% back / 12x Membership Rewards points per dollar spent at Kroger Ship. That’s probably a solid return on shipped groceries. I’m not positive whether or not Kroger Ship codes as a U.S. Supermarket, but if it does there could be a great stack here.
The Deal
- Rakuten.com is offering 12% back on Kroger Ship (groceries shipped to home). This can alternatively be 12 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent if you have your account set up to earn membership Rewards points
If you’re new to Rakuten
If you’re new to Rakuten, there is a current referral promotion to get $30 back when you sign up and spend $30 or more within 90 days. Feel free to use one of our referral links with our thanks.
Key Terms
- Exclusions: Cash Back is not available on Pickup, Delivery, or gift cards. Cash Back is only available on Ship orders.
- Special Terms: Using coupon codes that are not listed on Rakuten may void Cash Back. To be safe, stick to codes provided by Rakuten.
- Posting Time: Cash Back will be automatically added to your Rakuten account tomorrow.
Quick Thoughts
I don’t live in a Kroger area, so I’m not familiar with how their pricing stacks up for shipping orders. Note that the terms state that this will not work for store pickup orders, nor would it work for store delivery (if that’s a thing?) but rather only for shipping. Similarly, I don’t expect gift card purchases would track.
The reader who pointed this out mentioned the chance at a great stack. I don’t know for sure whether or not purchases from Kroger Ship would code as a U.S. Supermarket purchase. If they did, this would make for a great stack if you have recently referred a new cardholder and earned the referral bonus that includes +5 points per dollar at U.S. Supermarkets for up to $25,000 in purchases over 3 months. If you have that offer triggered on an Amex Gold card that ordinarily earns 4x on the first $25K in eligible purchases at U.S. Supermarkets (then 1x) and you’re still within that $25K cap, you could effectively earn 9x on the card and 12x through Rakuten for a total of 21 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent on groceries. I get hungry just thinking about it.
If you’re a Kroger shopper, this deal is probably worth a look.
