20% off SAS awards booked by 2/22 for travel by 6/30

SAS Eurobonus has been running a sale for the past few days that grants 20% off the mileage for an award ticket, including for child tickets (which are already a reduced 50% off the adult award price). The marketing says to book “by 2/22”. I don’t know whether that means before 2/22 or before the end of 2/22, but either way, it will be based on Central European Time (CET), so you’ll either need to book by 6pm Eastern today (2/21) or 6pm Eastern tomorrow (2/22), depending on which interpretation is correct.

Quick Thoughts

SAS recently increased award pricing. Whereas their equivalent of a “saver” award used to cost 50K points each way to/from Europe in business class (for travel on SAS metal), that price increased to 60K each way a couple of months ago.

However, with this sale, if you can find a saver seat, the price drops to 48K points after the 20% discount.

That’s an excellent deal for a business class award to Europe. The discount also applies to economy and premium economy, though considering the small premium over premium economy, I’d consider SAS business class to be worth the splurge if you’re willing to pay for something beyond economy. I flew SAS business class to Europe ~2 months ago and enjoyed the experience well enough.

Note that SAS offers child tickets (for children aged 2-11 years old) for 50% off the price of an adult award. That discount applies to the discounted price in this case, so the total price for 1 adult and 1 child in business class is 72,000 points one way.

Paying an average of 36K points each for business class to Europe is a really fantastic deal for those who can take advantage.

Speaking of those who can take advantage, the key limitation here is that not many Americans have easy access to SAS points. Those who completed the SAS EuroBonus millionaire promotion are well-positioned for sales like these, but ever since the demise of Mesa, there hasn’t been an easy way for Americans to get SAS points, since SAS does not yet partner with any other major transferable currencies.

If you do have SAS points, Seats.aero is the easy way to find availability. I used their Explore tool to find the example seats above.

Overall, this is a great limited-time deal.
