We do not have any info in the Frequent Miler Laboratory as to whether gift card purchases earn points at Neiman Marcus. Terms & conditions say “no” (but, then, they almost always say that).

Any word on whether NM gift cards will accrue points through US air portal?

FM, I’d be interested if you find any resale opportunities on this deal. I did a write-up on my site about one possibility. More like buying miles. Sure would be nice if we could confirm points through gift cards.
I haven’t looked for any. I wouldn’t jump into this one for resale without some idea of whether a double dip would work.
I just purchased $50 in gift cards for a test with my Discover card since I still don’t have the Freedom.Hopefully will get 50x18miles= 900 miles + 5% cashback= 2.50.
