View from the Wing reports that you can get instant free elite status with Avis and National. I tried the Avis link and found that by the next day I had been upgraded to Avis First status! I didn’t try the National link because I already have Executive status (which I love!). Here are the links:

One other note, National has Status Match as well. I’m going to go from Five Star –> President’s Circle via Hertz status match with existing Executive status (done) and from Executive –> Executive Elite via National status match leveraging the newly minted President’s Circle status.
