The cash back portal, Ebates, now offers a Visa credit card that gives you an additional 3% cash back on qualifying purchases made through their portal.
One way to take advantage of this is to go through the Ebates portal to buy American Express gift cards for 1% cash back:
If you pay with your EBates credit card, you should get a total of 4% cash back. Then, use those gift cards for day to day spend.
If you’re new to Ebates, please find a signup link here.

Seems to me this is currently the best cash back option out there – when going through Ebates’ app on a 2% offering. Has anyone tried this?

@deborah, that makes sense. Amex doesn’t payout through portals when people use promo codes or buy cards in denominations about $2K. Its fine to order multiple $2K cards at once, but you probably won’t get paid if you buy a $3K card.
Can anyone confirm that they purchased Two $2000 Amex gift cards in one transaction and got their rebate. I’d rather not pay two shipping fees, but will, if need be to get my rebate.
Yes
Can anyone confirm they got a full 4% back using this method?
When using the ebates Visa cc, thru the ebates portal, I seem to be getting only 1% from ebates on AGC purchases of $2,000 personal cards, not 4%.
Credit card rewards are probably applied separately and with your credit card statement. Have you waited one or two statements to see what rewards show up?
All my ebates cash back posts to the MyAccount section of the ebates website. There is no separate cc statement with rewards, although the website has statement closing dates of 2/19 and 3/22.
Going back to my first $2k AGC purchase on 2/9/15, they all post at only 1% with no subsequent 3% added for using the ebates cc, as advertised. Any other data points you have?
Have you tried contacting support? You’re the first I’ve heard from that got this card and has tried using it for Amex gift cards
Being corrected now. Thanks
Any update on this Jacinto?
I tried this. At first it posted correctly, at 1% plus 3% but then amex reversed the rebates and I only got1% back for using my ebates cc. After inquiring through ebates, They told me it was because I used a coupon code (for free shipping). I’m going to try it again and see what happens.

This is better then Ebates. You can now get up to 11% cash back for booking hotel online at http://www.freecashbacktoday.com
I intend to give this a try. I searched the program rules and did not find anything that would prevent the purchase of AMEX gift cards. This could change at any time though because they could simply change their exclusion list. http://www.ebates.com/help/storeexceptions.htm
Currently this is the verbage:

Credit pulls data base for Synchrony and GE Capital shows most pulls are for TransUnion but the few Experian makes me nervous. Maybe I’d do it if I free Ex first.
Issued by what bank?
Synchrony Bank
No way sustainable, IMO.
How can this be sustainable without an AGC exclusion? Portals are already very familiar with MSers.
Its probably not sustainable. I bet the EBates people who came up with this plan didn’t think of the Amex gc angle
