are you better off just accruing benefits in the first 90 days, given the 5 x multiple for linking the visa card, instead of exercising the discounts as they accrue in the account withing the first three months?
for example if gas is $2 a gallon, and you have a $1 disc in the account, you’ll get 20 gallons for $20, and get the benefit of $20 spend going towards the 60c per $100 spent.
but if you just buy gas @ $2, you get $40 accruing towards the benefit, ie double.
so is it better to spend for the first three months, and then just exercise discounts post the initial three month period?
if you say accrue $3.00 disc in the account, and fill up 20 gallons, does the $1 bal carry over to a future fill?

Article is a little confusing and headline in misleading, so I’ll help clarify…
Every time you spend $100 on gas at BP, they load a “reward” to your account for .10¢ off per gallon ON 1 FILL-UP. During this promotion, as long as you meet the requirements, they will add an additional .50¢ per gallon to your rewards, making it a total of .60¢ per gallon ON 1 FILL-UP.
So, this isn’t “save .60¢ on every gallon” or an unlimited promotion. In order to qualify for the first .60¢ you must first spend $100 combined (can be over several transactions) at BO for gas. Then in order to requalify, you must spend another $100 for the next .60¢ reward.
This is not entirely clear. Do I get 50¢ off per gallon the first time after I link my card (good deal)? Or do I have to spend $100 first (not a good deal)? I’m not a heavy driver and gas is cheap. I’d have to drive well over a thousand miles in 90 days to hit the mark and it’s very unlikely I’m going to do that.
Doesn’t appear that you actually have to use the linked card at the pump. For me I can continue to use BP gift cards that I buy elsewhere at a discount. Thanks for the heads up, I’ll grab a card off the pump tonight.
FYI – they don’t actually have the hard cards at the pump anymore. I registered online just a few minutes ago, appears you can just use your phone number at the pump to log the purchase to your rewards
If you indeed don’t need to use the Visa card that is linked and have Apple Pay with Discover card, you could use that to pay and double dip.
FYI – I did a small ‘test run’ today over lunch. You do not have to use the linked Visa card to pay, in my case I used a BP GC that I had. And already showing the purchase in my driver rewards account.
ARCO – is it a BP station for this purpose?
So we need to spend $100 before we get the $0.60 off per gallon? Or we get $0.60/gallon off on every fill up for 90 days?
