Citi is sending out a targeted offer to ThankYou Preferred (and possibly other) cardholders giving 5,000 ThankYou points for adding an authorized user.
The Offer
Now, for a limited time, add an authorized user and spend $2,000 on purchases to receive 5,000 bonus ThankYou® points by 9/30/2016.
Update: At least one reader has received an offer with a different bonus amount.
Key Terms
- This offer starts upon enrollment and will end on 9/30/2016.
- Earnings may overlap with other special offers in which you are currently enrolled.
- Purchases exclude balance transfers, cash advances, convenience checks, items returned for credit, fees and interest charges.
- All purchases must be posted during the promotional period.
- Earnings associated with this bonus offer are limited to the addition of only one authorized user. ThankYou® points earned will be posted to the primary cardmembers’ account in 1-2 billing cycles.
Different Spend Requirements
In the past, different cardmembers received different versions of the offer with varying spend requirements. It isn’t clear if that is the case this time, but if you are targeted you may have a higher or lower spend threshold.

Mine is 3k.
I was recently told at an FTU meeting that if you add the person they are eligible for AMEX Offers as well. How do you do this because in the past, I just added a new person, my wife has the Starwood card and we have never seen offers just for her to choose.
Hi Dan. You will need to create a separate login for the AU card. Here is our guide to Amex Offers that explains how everything works.

Got one for Citi Platinum AA card requiring the adding of an authorized user AND spending $3k by 9/30/16 for 2500 bonus AA miles. Meh.
No email on my account. I’ve had no spend on this card for almost a year now.
Is this coming by email, snail mail or is this offer posted on the credit card page from Citi? I’ve yet to ever get a targeted offer and sure would like to make sure not to miss one!
It is coming via email.
Darn. Not a peep from them. Ok, thanks, Shawn!
