@Milesmaven: I’ve done several African safaris, and your best bet is to deal with someone in South Africa and just pay for the safari. Use miles to get there, of course, but there are so many luxury game preserves and safaris to choose from.
Paying in rand will save you a lot of money. Both times I went I did not have anything scheduled in advance.
Ask yourself how long you actually want to spend looking at wild animals.
For me, it’s maybe 2 days, but I have a short attention span.
Whatever you decide, don’t leave out Victoria Falls.
Thanks for the tip. Any recommendations on who to work with? Or which locations?
Do you know anyone has used the miles for Ulusaba safari lodge in South Africa?
This is an aspirational destination for me and I am wondering how the merger with Alaska Airlines will effect these awards.
Do you wish you would have used those 1.2 million miles on many other trips, or was it worth it?
100% worth it for us but depends on your circumstances
