Frequent Miler's latest team challenge, Million Mile Madness, is almost done! The last two weeks Greg, Nick, and Stephen competed to earn 1 Million SAS miles by flying 15 airlines. But who completed the challenge with the most Speed, Affordability, and Style?
There are a bunch of new Amex Offers out today good for discounts on wine, tickets, hotels, and organic meals among others you may find in your accounts. Here are a few that caught my eye today:
Martha Stewart Wine Co – Spend $50, get $40 (!!) back
Quick Thoughts: I had this offer on all of my Amex cards. I have no idea if this wine is any good. In fact, I assume it’s pretty mediocre at best. While this looks like one of those monthly wine subscriptions, you can also purchase wine by the bottle. The shipping fee is $9.99 if you buy fewer than 12 bottles. Once you figure out your state tax, you should be able to get two bottles that come to a total of right around $50 to trigger the offer. I did Google a few bottles and came across higher prices elsewhere, though it’s tough to compare wine prices online. I’ll probably grab a couple to give as gifts at this price. Note that TopCashBack is currently offering 12% cash back at Martha Stewart Wine Co.
Ticket Galaxy – Spend $100, get 2,500 Membership Rewards points
Quick Thoughts: Ticket Galaxy has pretty terrible reviews online. That said, if I were in the market for tickets, I’d probably still consider them with this offer as the discount is good and I’d count on filing a charge back if they don’t deliver.
Best Western: Spend $100, get 2,000 Membership Rewards points (or $20)
Quick Thoughts: I received this offer on cards that earn Membership Rewards points, so my offer is for 2,000 points. Others have reported an offer for $20 back on $100. Personally, I prefer the points offer as I value Membership Rewards at more than a penny each. Either way, a nice discount if your travels take you to a Best Western. Don’t forget they have an easy status match going on!
Sun Basket Organic Meal Delivery: Spend $70, get 3,000 Membership Rewards points
Quick Thoughts: This deal sounds interesting. Essentially, it’s a service that delivers you three recipes per week (presumably with all of the ingredients) for either 2 people or 4 people. The price with shipping comes to $74 and some change – great for the Amex Offer — but unfortunately they waive shipping charges, so your first order comes to $68 and change (if you order for 2 — meals for 4 is double the cost). I’ll have to look closer to see if it’s possible to eliminate free shipping. If it is, I’ll probably give this one a shot. If the meals are any good, $74 to earn more than 3,000 points and get three meals will work for a few weeks as I run this through different Amex cards.
Bottom Line
Amex Offers are one of the most valuable things about being an Amex card holder and these offers are the reason I continue to pay the annual fee on a number of cards. Over the course of the year, I more than make up for the cost of keeping my cards with offers that make sense for me. Keep your eye out for new Amex Offers this week. As we head into a new month, a number of new offers often come out. The above offers are not the only new offers possible — if you receive others, let us know what caught your eye in the comments.
Nick,
Any insight into why I would, without fail, get the Amex offers that come with the money back rather than the points? The points deal seem like they are almost always more valuable and am curious what influences the received offer. Thanks.
Sorry for the slow response, Bill. I think it’s mostly determined by the type of card you have. I think the points offers are generally on Membership Rewards-earning cards and the dollar back offers are generally on other cards (for what it’s worth, I value the points more in most scenarios).
Hmm, It’s always on my personal Platinum and PRG…
tried topcashback and got this message
“Unfortunately we can no longer offer cashback with this merchant. Please browse our alternative merchants or search above.”
[…] today, we posted a quick deal summary of several new Amex Offers out this week. If you’re a wine drinker, the Martha Stewart Wine Co offer may have caught […]
I was actually considering signing up for something like Blue Apron in July, so the Sun Basket deal is well-timed. I signed up through their welcome code and got 3 recipes the first week for $34.47. Then for the second week, I’m getting only 2 recipes for $55.95 including shipping. That’s $90 for 5 recipes (10 meals) and eventually 3090 MR points worth ~$62 for me. 10 meals for $28 net ain’t bad.
If okay with you all, I could put my welcome code on here for 3 free meals so that others can copy this plan. Just have to have the 2nd week by the time the Amex Offer expires. I’ll likely cancel after the 2nd week anyway.
What do you think about stacking with the Groupon Martha Stewart Wine deal?
dont see how you can. The groupon will probably provide a code where you enter it on the site and it will zero out the cost + tax + shipping
Bummer! It’s still a great deal without that though.
