Mommy Points is reporting what appears to be a targeted transfer bonus that looks pretty awesome if you’ve got it — a 20% bonus when transferring Membership Rewards to Air Canada’s Aeroplan. With this bonus, miles will transfer at the following ratio:
1,000 Membership Rewards points = 1,200 Air Canada Aeroplan miles
That’s a terrific deal. Aeroplan already has a nice award chart. One of their most popular sweet spots is 55,000 miles one-way from the US to much of Western Europe in business class. There are no fuel surcharges on SAS, Turkish, United, or Swiss and low fuel surcharges on LOT Polish. With this promotion, you could transfer 46,000 Membership Rewards points to book a business class one-way to Europe on Star Alliance carriers (though note that fuel surcharges can be quite high on other Star Alliance partners). On a round trip award, you can get a stopover and open-jaw. And that’s not the only sweet spot on the chart — here is the chart for flights originating in Canada and the Continental US. One-ways are half the round trip prices seen here.
Unfortunately, neither my wife nor I were targeted for this one — we just see the usual 1000:1000 ratios in our accounts.
That said, Summer at Mommy Points reports that she has seen the ratio flip flop between 1000:1000 and 1000:1200 over multiple logins. I wouldn’t spend all night logging in and out, but I’d keep an eye on your account to see if this is something that is popping up randomly.
As Gary Leff at View from the Wing notes, I don’t recall a transfer bonus from Membership Rewards to Aeroplan before. It shows an end date of 12/10/17. If you’re interested in an Aeroplan Star Alliance award, it’s worth taking a look.
